WWE "24" Report
January 26, 2015
Aired on WWE Network
Report by James Caldwell, PWTorch assistant editor

After Monday's snowed-in Raw went off the air, WWE Network picked up with the series premiere of "WWE 24" going behind-the-scenes on WrestleMania 30 last year in New Orleans.

The show started with a look at The Undertaker walking to the back after The Streak ended. Then, Vince McMahon shouting toward Gorilla position: "I need some help here."

24 hours earlier, New Orleans welcomed WrestleMania to the city. After a look at the festivities, WWE showed the set-up for WrestleMania in the Superdome and the production aspect.

WWE cut to Big Show talking about the growth of WrestleMania Week from WM20 to WM30. Show and Sheamus were shown posing with Connor the Crusher. Then, flashbacks to Daniel Bryan with regular-length hair and the makings of a full-length beard meeting Connor a few years ago. Flash-forward to Connor talking to Batista and D-Bryan talking in a sit-down interview about Connor. Stephanie McMahon talked in the sit-down setting about inviting Connor to WrestleMania.

Next, WWE showed Hulk Hogan, The Rock, and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin at the Hall of Fame joking about having a triple threat. Hogan said he'll just stand back and let them go at it.

Next, Ultimate Warrior was shown arriving at the Hall of Fame. Warrior was sweating in a sit-down interview talking about his HOF speech. He was shown talking to Vince McMahon and Triple H before his speech. They cut to Warrior greeting his wife and children before his speech. WWE flashed through various clips of the HOF speeches, pausing on Scott Hall's speech while the Kliq watched backstage.

Linda McMahon was shown backstage with Warrior, who Steph said had a personal connection with Linda. They showed Warrior's speech, focusing on his desire to be a father.

Next, WrestleMania Sunday. They showed Triple H in his gladiator suit. Then, footage of NXT Divas arriving for their instructions on being part of Hunter's entrance. Charlotte, Sasha Banks, and Alexa Bliss were the chosen three. Hunter said their appearance took the "alter-ego" to another level of heelishness. They showed Vince and Stephanie producing the entrance.

Next were Hogan, Rock, and Austin backstage preparing for their opening segment. McMahon walked up to them for a final conversation.

Live to WM30, Hulk Hogan walked out as the host of the event. They focused on Hogan calling it the Silverdome, then Austin and Rock nodding backstage at having new material to work with. McMahon was shown laughing on his headset when Austin joked with Hogan during his entrance. Next, they showed Rock surprising everyone being part of the segment. And Hogan making the save.

Backstage, Hogan talked to Austin and Rock, with Shawn Michaels joining the conversation to talk about the Silverdome flub. Michaels called the segment a special moment in the business as other wrestlers milled about in the backkground. John Cena was part of the group.

Next, Triple H was shown making his entrance with the NXT Divas. Sasha talked about being honored to be part of the moment when WWE could have hired models. Ric Flair was shown embracing Charlotte, then crying after seeing his daughter part of WrestleMania. Next, Hunter was shown walking through the curtain after his match. Also, Brie Bella greeting Daniel Bryan after the Bryan-Hunter opener. They cut to the finish of Bryan beating Hunter while Steph sold shock ringside.

Next was The Shield making their entrance through the top of the Superdome crowd. Suddenly, WWE cut to Warrior and Hulk Hogan making up somewhere in the building with a face-to-face meeting. Hogan was shown telling Warrior that he hopes someday they can start over. Warrior said he accepts Hogan's apology. They embraced. Hogan said he made his night.

Next, they showed Cody Rhodes greeting Warrior in the locker room. Rob Van Dam also greeted Warrior. WWE moved forward to the 2014 Hall of Fame class being introduced on-stage. Warrior's wife, Dana, talked about the importance of being remembered, loved, and accepted. They showed Warrior greeting Daniel Bryan and other wrestlers and talent.

WWE moved back to WrestleMania for Bray Wyatt's live entrance with the Wyatts. Then, Bray crab-walking in his match against John Cena, "whose legacy grew" with the win.

Time for a big shift. WWE showed stagehands re-arranging caskets for The Undertaker's ring entrance. Taker was shown walking down the hallway as Brock Lesnar made his ring entrance with Paul Heyman. Taker was shown silently embracing Vince McMahon in a really interesting moment with both knowing The Streak was about to end. Very serious moment. Taker's gong hit, he put on his hat, and Taker made his entrance as WWE showed caskets for each of his WrestleMania victims.

WWE cut to wrestlers watching Taker vs. Lesnar backstage in the building. Then, Lesnar scoring the pin to end The Streak. Shocked fans, injured Taker, and quotes from news coverage of Taker's Streak ending. Taker was shown walking up the ramp to the back.

Backstage, McMahon shouted for help. An ambulance was shown arriving backstage to take Taker away. They played audio of Cole saying Taker suffered a severe concussion. Text flashed on the screen wondering if Taker wrestled his last match.

Next, Daniel Bryan talked about the added pressure of now having to follow The Streak ending... in the WrestleMania main event. They cut to footage of the beating Bryan took against Batista and Randy Orton. Then, Bryan getting off the stretcher and forcing Batista to tap out to win the WWE World Title. Brie was shown celebrating backstage, then leaving to get ready for Bryan coming through the curtain.

WWE showed Bryan celebrating to close WrestleMania. Bryan said in a voice-over that he wasn't supposed to be there, but the fans forced him in because they wouldn't accept anything else. Bryan talked about his family being there with him to enjoy the moment. They cut to Connor on the front row ready to greet Bryan.

Backstage, Bryan was shown greeting Brie, then colleagues backstage. Bryan was shown walking down the hallway as WWE World Hvt. champion talking about the moment. Next was a flash-forward of the big WrestleMania moments. There was an interesting out-of-character shot of Taker greeting Shawn Michaels during the weekend. The show closed with Bryan celebrating as WWE World Hvt. champion before WWE noted the show was dedicated to Connor the Crusher.

A few interesting notes to the storytelling, which they tried to pack into a 30-minute special. No real mention of Warrior dying a few days after Mania weekend, only one focused look at The Shield (and Roman Reigns), not much from top star John Cena, and a really intriguing moment between McMahon and Taker just before The Streak ended. Bryan, Connor, and Warrior were the main focuses, which were fitting choices for WM30.
