WWE Main Event Results
January 13, 2015
Taped in Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Report by Joel Dehnel, PWTorch contributor

Main Event opening rolled. The Rhodes Bros.'s music played as they made their entrance. Tom Phillips, banished from Smackdown, welcomed the audience to Main Event live on WWE Network. Tonight, he is joined by JBL.

An inset promo played for the Rhodes Bros. discussing how the stars will align for them. Eden Stiles then introduced Los Matadores as their opponents.

1 -- RHODES BROS. ("STARDUST" CODY RHODES & GOLDUST) vs. LOS MATADORES (DIEGO & FERNANDO w/El Torito)

Fernando started the match with Goldust. Fernando beat down Goldust until Stardust got a sneak tag. Stardust kicked Fernando off the apron then tagged in Goldust. He threw Fernando into the step then went for a cover. Stardust came back in and landed a few shots on Fernando. Fernando tried to rally back, but Stardust stopped him. He then threw Stardust to the outside and crawled to Diego for the tag. He got fired up and took down Goldust. He went for a sunset flip pin on Goldust. Goldust kicked out and beat down Diego. He then grabbed El Torito, who flipped Goldust. Diego then swooped in for the pin on Goldust.

WINNER: Los Matadores at 4:03.

[Break]

Announcers: Philips said that next week there would not be a Main Event show and instead there will be Santino's Royal Rumble Lottery Spectacular!

The Ascension made their entrance for their upcoming match. Viktor said that he know everyone is upset that they compare themselves to past great teams. Konnor said like the The Road Warriors. Viktor said there were no great past teams, but there is a great one for the future, The Ascension. Welcome to the Wasteland. Two local competitors entered the ring but, were not given entrances.

2 -- THE ASCENSION (KONNOR & VIKTOR) vs. TWO LOCAL COMPETITORS

Viktor threw the jobber into the corner and beat him down. Konnor tagged in and threw him around. Viktor came back in and knocked the jobber to the outside with a clothesline. Konnor tagged in and threw the jobber into the barricade multiple times. He tagged in Viktor and they hit Nuclear Fallout followed by The Fall of Man for the win.

WINNER: The Ascension at 1:48 with The Fall of Man.

[Break]

Announcers: Philips went back to the events on Raw involving Seth Rollins, John Cena, and WWE World Hvt. champion Brock Lesnar. Highlights from the Rollins-Cena match aired followed by Raw's closing segment.

In-ring: Eden Stiles introduced U.S. champion Rusev for the next match.

[Break]

In ring: Justin Gabriel was in the ring with Rusev for their match.

3 -- U.S. champion RUSEV (w/Lana) vs. JUSTIN GABRIEL -- non-title match

The crowd started an early 'USA' chant, which drew a confused look from Gabriel considering he is from South Africa. Gabriel chopped Rusev and prevented a Rusev from taking advantage. Rusev grabbed a kick and dropped Gabriel. He kicked Gabriel on the side of the head, which sent him to the outside. Rusev dropped a few elbows followed by a headbutt. Gabriel got to his feet and stomped Rusev's back followed by a flying clothesline. Gabriel went back to the top, but Rusev slammed him to the mat. Rusev locked in The Accolade for the win.

WINNER: Rusev via submission at 3:48 with The Accolade. Rusev looked dominant yet again, but I will give Gabriel credit that he does take really good bumps and is a good enhancement guy on the roster.

Following the match, Rusev superkicked Gabriel and jumped in celebration.

Announcers: Philips discussed the announcement of Randy Savage's induction into the WWE Hall of Fame. A video package played highlighting Savage's career.

The New Day made their entrance to almost no response from the crowd.

[Break]

In-ring: New Day were dancing in the ring. A short inset promo aired were they said the same thing they have been since they debuted - it's a new day and a new beginning. Adam Rose's music played and he made his way to the ring alongside Cesaro and Tyson Kidd.

4 -- THE NEW DAY (BIG E. & XAVIER WOODS & KOFI KINGSTON) vs. CESARO & TYSON KIDD & ADAM ROSE (w/The Rosebuds & Natalya) -- six-man tag match

Kofi started the match with Rose. They locked up and Rose gained the advantage. Rose kneed Kofi, then tagged in Kidd. Big E. tagged in and clotheslined Kidd. Woods then tagged in and drove into Kidd's chest. Woods hits a clothesline followed by some kicks. Kidd knocked Woods out of the ring, though, and tagged in Rose. Rose threw him into the barricade, then tagged in Cesaro who hit an uppercut.

[Break]

Rose had Woods in the obligatory mid-match headlock coming back from break. Rose tagged in Kidd, who kicked down Woods. Woods got the hot tag to Kofi, who took out all men including a leg drop on Kidd. He kneed Kidd into the corner followed by a cross-body. Kidd tagged out, though, and Cesaro surprised Kofi with an uppercut. Cesaro swung Kofi around the ring and went for a pin. Kofi went for a small package, then got the tag to Big E., who exploded on Cesaro.

Big E. hit a belly-to-belly on Cesaro, then pulled out his towel to wipe off his forehead. He then hit a big splash on Cesaro and Kidd. Rose tagged in and Big E. launched him across the ring. Woods planted Cesaro face-first, then got kicked by Kidd. Big E. knocked Cesaro off the apron, Rose hit a spinebuster on Big E., and New Day assembled in the ring and dove onto everyone one the outside. Big E. threw Rose back into the ring and tagged in Woods, who hit The Midnight Hour for the win. New Day celebrated to close out the show.

WINNER: The New Day at 11:01. My thoughts on New Day are the same complaints everyone has about how WWE presents them, which is this gimmick is awful and the audience doesn't seem to care.

FINAL THOUGHTS: At this point I'm not sure if WWE will have any sort of Main Event show next week. WWE announced the Santino special in its place, but it's unclear if that will be an original arena show... There were not any particular new happenings on Main Event as the primary focus this week was to hype Smackdown on Thursday... The Ascension didn't do a lot in their match and that's because I don't think that Konnor and Viktor are capable of doing anything more than a few worked punches and their signature moves. The fans will figure out these guys got nothing and give them heat for it, not the good kind... The saddest part about the main event wasn't The New Day's gimmick, but seeing the Andre the Giant Battle Royal winner, "Paul Heyman Guy" Cesaro in a meaningless match of this kind. It's really a shame that everyone sees his talent except the one guy who it matters to. And now he is on Main Event lost in the shuffle. He should be being built for WrestleMania 32 as a champion because he is capable of doing so. Maybe Vince McMahon has plans for him in the future, and wants to see if he's a team player until he's ready. Either way, it ain't easy being Swiss.

MATCH SUMMARY: (1) Los Matadores (Diego & Fernando w/El Torito) beat Goldust & "Stardust" Cody Rhodes. ... (2) The Ascension (Konnor & Viktor) won a squash match. ... (3) U.S. champion Rusev (w/Lana) beat Justin Gabriel via submission in a non-title match. ... (4) New Day (Big E. & Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) beat Cesaro & Adam Rose & Tyson Kidd (w/Natalya) in a six-man tag match.
