WWE Main Event Results
January 6, 2015
Taped in Laredo, Texas
Aired on WWE Network
Report by Joel Dehnel, PWTorch contributor

Main Event opened with a video package from Raw highlighting John Cena and The Authority. Paige's music played and she came to the ring with Natalya. Michael Cole welcomed the audience to Main Event live on the Network. Tonight, he is joined by JBL and Booker T.

Nikki Bella, alongside Brie Bella, came out second.

1 -- WWE Divas champion NIKKI BELLA (w/Brie) vs. PAIGE (w/Natalya) -- non-title match

Both women locked up until Nikki threw down Paige. Nikki gained leverage and went for a pin, but Paige grabbed Nikki's hair and headbutt her. Paige superkicked Nikki and screamed at her. She stomped her in the corner until Nikki escaped the ring and reconciled with Brie.

[Break]

Back from break, Paige was driving knees into Nikki on the apron. Nikki escaped again and tossed Paige to the outside. Natalya walked over to Paige to check on her while the ref started his count. Nikki tried stretching out Paige's arm in the center of the ring, but Paige got to her feet, only to have Nikki throw her back towards the ropes. She kept working the arm in the corner and followed with an abdominal stretch. Nikki drove her knees into Paige's arm followed by a clothesline. Nikki sat on Paige for a pin attempt, then kicked Paige's head.

Paige made her comeback with a few fists, but was stopped quickly by Nikki. Nikki stomped on her hand and dragged her around the ring. Nikki applied an armbar while Paige attempted to prevent it by holding her hands together. Paige got back to her feet and hit a few clotheslines followed by a dropkick. Paige went up top, but Nikki pulled her down after the distraction from Brie. A sequence of roll-ups followed by a big kick by Paige. Paige hit The Rampage for the win.

WINNER: Paige at 11:58 with The Rampage.

[JD's Reax: Glad to see the Divas given more time. They had a good match for the main roster Divas division, but nothing on Charlotte's level.]

Backstage: Rusev and Lana were walking towards the ring.

In-ring: Eden Stiles introduced U.S. champion Rusev and Lana to the ring. Lana told the crowd to "Shu-Tup." She said that after the emotional speech from Ryback last Monday on Raw, he was embarrassed by being fired by The Authority. A clip played of Ryback's interview with Renee Young after Raw, where Ryback said it's been a long road and the Big Guy is going home. Lana said that Ryback has overcome many obstacles, but the embarrassment he feels now is nothing compared to what he would have felt if he had faced Rusev. Rusev grabbed the mic and said Ryback was embarrassed but if he faced him he would be humiliated. He said he would wipe the floor with his face. He stated he would be in the Royal Rumble where he would take his rightful place in the main event of WrestleMania.

[JD's Reax: I'm glad to see that they are acknowledging the Rumble match again, and Rusev made his case why he would win. Cole also mentioned that Daniel Bryan would be in the match. So, what we saw last week on Raw with Bryan was not a dream.]

Announcers: Cole discussed the other wrestlers who were fired on Monday. A video package played of interviews with Erick Rowan and Dolph Ziggler. Both guys said they were disappointed and don't know what is next.

[Break]

In-ring: Rosa was seductively dancing for Fandango's entrance. Stiles announced R-Truth as his opponent.

2 -- FANDANGO vs. R-TRUTH

Fandango knocked down R-Truth. Truth splashed Fandango in the corner, then Fandango threw an elbow and went for a pin. Fandango threw Truth into the corner and taunted the crowd. Fandango grabbed Truth's hair and landed a few forearms while the crowd cheered for Truth. Truth escaped and went for a pin. He knocked down Fandango a few times. Fandango slammed Truth to the mat and went to the top rope. He hit the leg drop for the win.

WINNER: Fandango at 3:07 with a top-rope leg drop.

[Break]

Announcers: Cole plugged the last Friday Night Smackdown this week.

Stiles introduced Jack Swagger for the next match.

[JD's Reax: Cole mentioned the Swagger was originally supposed to be on John Cena's team from Survivor Series but was pulled due to injury. Cole then failed to mention that Swagger returned from "injury" to wrestle on Main Event before Survivor Series with absolutely no attention drawn to the injury. Ugh.]

Titus O'Neil came out next and said that 2015 is off and running. The Authority is back in power, but don't worry because someone can save us and that person is T-I-T-U-'barking noise' S.

3 -- JACK SWAGGER vs. TITUS O'NEIL

They locked up until Swagger slammed Titus. He went for a quick Patriot Lock, but Titus got to the ropes. Titus recovered and landed a few uppercuts, Swagger escaped and again went for the Patriot Lock. He then knocked him to the outside and recited 'We the People.'

[Break]

Back in the ring, Titus landed a big boot and went for a pin. He grabbed Swagger's hair and smacked his face. Titus threw down Swagger and maintained control with some chops. Titus hit a fallaway slam and went for another pin. Swagger crawled to the corner, but Titus caught him and continued his dominance. Titus locked in an abdominal stretch, but Swagger pushed him off and slammed him. Both men slugged it out followed by a clothesline from Swagger.

Swagger revved up and hit another clothesline. Swagger landed a Swaggerbomb, but the ref said Titus grabbed the rope when he didn't. The announcers crucified the ref's call. Swagger knocked Titus to the outside, then drove Swagger into the post and returned to the ring. Titus then hit a big boot followed by Clash of the Titus for the win.

WINNER: O'Neil at 8:38 with Clash of the Titus.

FINAL THOUGHTS: I'm glad that some wrestlers are making their case for what their plans are for 2015. I would've liked to see Titus specifically mention the Royal Rumble like Rusev did. A different concept for the Rumble I would've liked to have seen is qualifying matches or even if you won your match you would get a better spot. I think that would give these smaller shows some meaning, but knowing how WWE operates not wanting to be a wrestling show, that would be too much for them to comprehend.

RESULTS SUMMARY: (1) Paige beat Divas champion Nikki Bella in a non-title match. ... (2) Fandango beat R-Truth. ... (3) Titus O'Neil beat Jack Swagger.
