WWE Main Event Results
April 8, 2014
Lafayette, La. at the Cajundome
Aired on WWE Network
Report by James Caldwell, PWTorch assistant editor

The post-WrestleMania edition of Main Event opened with a video package on new WWE World Hvt. champion Daniel Bryan celebrating last night on Raw. Then, Triple H interrupted with something to say. This set up battle lines drawn between Bryan & The Shield against Hunter, Randy Orton, Batista, and Kane. Lengthy opening intro video.

Main Event then opened with The Shield's music to bring out Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, and Roman Reigns through the crowd down to ringside. Byron Saxton and Tom Phillips set the stage for the show before the Wyatts's video interruption played. On the screen, Bray Wyatt told the Cajundome that they're here. Live in the arena, the Wyatts made their ring entrance to face Shield.

1 -- THE SHIELD (U.S. champion DEAN AMBROSE & SETH ROLLINS & ROMAN REIGNS) vs. THE WYATTS (BRAY WYATT & LUKE HARPER & ERICK ROWAN) -- six-man tag match

Before the bell sounded, the announcers provided a nice history lesson on the war between Shield and Wyatts dating back to Elimination Chamber. Once the bell sounded, Ambrose slapped the sheep's mask right off Rowan's face to set off a fight. Shield dominated Rowan, then the two teams met in the middle of the ring for a staredown heading to break.

[Break]

The second act built to Reigns hot-tagging for Rollins. Reigns cleaned house before tagging in Ambrose, who combined with Reigns on a double-team neckbreaker for Harper. But, Harper recovered and smashed Ambrose with a big boot to the face. This allowed the Wyatts to control Ambrose, including Rowan punishing Ambrose after the opening exchange. Wyatts in complete control heading to break.

[Break. The spot included a DVD plug for Ultimate Warrior's new DVD.]

The third act built to Shield finally just jumping into the ring instead of waiting for Ambrose to make a tag. A brawl broke out, leading to Harper taking out Reigns in front of the announcers. Bray then hung upside down in the corner to stalk Ambrose and set up for Sister's Abigail, but Ambrose reversed into a roll-up for a close two count. Ambrose nailed a DDT to slow down Bray, then he reached Rollins for a hot tag.

Rollins entered hot on Rowan, then dropkicked Harper out of the ring. Rollins flew through the ropes with a suicide dive to Harper, then nailed a flip-dive on Rowan on the opposite side of the floor. Back in the ring, Rollins corner-splashed Rowan, then nailed a flip-over reverse DDT for a two count.

Chaos in the ring. Bray back-elbowed Ambrose, then Reigns stalked Bray for a big Superman Punch, but Rowan chucked Reigns out of the ring. Back in the ring, Rollins kicked Rowan in the head, then Harper. Hot tag to Ambrose, who kicked Rowan into a flying knee from Rollins. Ambrose followed right up with his faceplant finisher for the pin and the win.

WINNERS: Shield at 19:23. Sluggish middle act, but an overall good match showcasing Shield in a firm babyface role to connect them with the general audience. This audience definitely feels like a general WWE audience after most of the WrestleMania Crowd flew out after Raw.

Post-match, Ambrose comically fell to the mat selling exhaustion from the match. Renee Young then entered the ring for a psot-match interview. Ambrose coughed and sold rib injuries from "one of their toughest tests," the Wyatts. Rollins hyped The Shield and responded to Triple H calling them nameless and facless, then Reigns went for the ladies's man line: "Renee, do I look faceless, baby?"

Reigns followed by asking the Cajundome what his name is. "Roman Reigns!" they shouted, then chanted his name. Reigns continued to woo the crowd, then Rollins said they are ready for war. He said Hunter fired the first shot and put out a hit on them, but they will end the war. More teases for a War Games match. Overall, the Bryan video, ring intros, match, and post-match consumed the first 32 minutes of the show. Well done.

Still to come tonight: Dolph Ziggler vs. Jack Swagger.

Vignette: Adam Rose is on the Exotic Express.

[Break]

Video Package: Historical WrestleMania clips.

In-ring: The "Real Americans" theme played to bring out "a Real American" Jack Swagger, followed by Zeb Colter. The commentators noted Swagger is looking to move on from a rough week after his break-up from Cesaro.

[Break]

In-ring: Zeb Colter spoke that Cesaro showed his true colors last night when Cesaro back-stabbed them and joined Paul Heyman. Zeb said he proved that immigrants are sneaky and Heyman is a liar, so they deserve each other. Now, they continue their mission to rid the country of immigrants. Zeb asked the crowd to join them in shouting, "We The People." Then, an immigrant from Cleveland by way of Hollywood, Florida made his entrance.

2 -- DOLPH ZIGGLER vs. JACK SWAGGER (w/Zeb Colter)

Swagger worked on Ziggler's left knee early on, then teased the Patriot Lock, but Ziggler broke free and nailed a Fameasser. Ziggler covered, but Swagger kicked out just before three. Ziggler followed with a DDT for a two count. Swagger came back by tossing Ziggler into the air and flowing right into the Patriot Lock. Ziggler frantically fought the hold, but was forced to tap out.

WINNER: Swagger via submission at 4:09. Swagger is back on track, while Ziggler remains stuck in that dreaded babyface enhancement role.

Video Package: Rusev made his singles in-ring debut last night on Raw. He's in action next.

[Break]

Vignette: Bo Dallas is turning "impossible" into "I'm possible."

In-ring: Sin Cara was introduced for the next match. The "Ravishing Russian" Lana then came out on-stage to introduce Alexander Rusev. Rusev hit the ring and did his pre-match poses as Lana watched approvingly.

3 -- ALEXANDER RUSEV (w/Lana) vs. SIN CARA

Cara tried some high-flying to avoid Rusev's power, but Rusev caught him with a back-kick to the face. Cara sold being lifeless from the kick, so Rusev stared down at him before finishing him with a swinging bodyslam. This led to Rusev applying The Accolade Camel Clutch submission for a decisive win.

WINNER: Rusev at 0:48. Over/Under three months for WWE to set up Rusev going after Daniel Bryan?

Just announced: Daniel Bryan & The Usos vs. Randy Orton & Batista & Kane in a six-man tag match this Friday on Smackdown.

Main Event then concluded with a shot of Rusev and Lana heading up the entrance ramp to the back, satisfied with their night's work.
