WWE Main Event Results
March 25, 2014
Live from Boston, Mass.
Aired on WWE Network
Report by James Caldwell, PWTorch assistant editor

Main Event jumped right to the business at hand with Intercontinental champion Big E. introduced to the ring. Announcers Tom Phillips and Byron Saxton noted that Christian has been pulled from the title match against Big E. tonight, adding that Christian suffered a "slight concussion" during the fatal four-way last night on Raw. Now, the three losers will compete in a three-way to determine another new #1 contender.

Out first was Sheamus as the announcers noted Big E. will still defend the title tonight. Alberto Del Rio was out second, followed by Dolph Ziggler fired up for a second opportunity to get an IC Title shot this week.

1 -- SHEAMUS vs. ALBERTO DEL RIO vs. Dolph Ziggler -- #1 contender match to Big E.'s IC Title

Several great nearfalls were sprinkled in the second-half of the match. Big E. paced the ringside area as the nearfalls unfolded, then he sat down when no one could score a three count. The announcers noted Big E. must be loving this since the wrestlers are taking everything out of each other. For the finish, Del Rio went for a backstabber on Sheamus simultaneous to Ziggler sneaking in behind Del Rio to kind of deliver Zig-Zag. He didn't get it clean, but covered Del Rio for the win.

WINNER: Ziggler at 14:38 to become #1 contender to the IC Title. Heck of a match built on believable nearfalls.

Post-match: Renee Young and Big E. entered the ring for a post-match discussion. Ziggler said he's going to WrestleMania! And he's going to win the Andre the Battle Royal, but as the Intercontinental champion. Big E. smirked, then Ziggler went through their history. Big E. shouted back that he was ringside when Ziggler became World champion, but said it's his time now. He wished Ziggler good luck and Ziggler gladly shook his hand. They agreed to test each other later tonight.

Raw Replay: Batista-Orton-Stephanie exchange to open Raw. This Friday on Smackdown: Batista has something to say.

Up next: 10-Divas tag match with a mix of Total Divas vs. non-Total Divas. But, no Divas champion A.J. Lee.

[Break]

2 -- NATALYA & EVA MARIE & CAMERON & NAOMI & EMMA vs. SUMMER RAE & TAMINA SNUKA & LAYLA & ALICIA FOX & AKSANA -- 10-Divas tag match

Emma looked out-of-place doing her dance down to the ring to Natalya's music joining the "Total Divas" cast despite not being on the show. Summer Rae's music then brought out Summer and the default heel group. Divas champion A.J. Lee joined commentary for the tag match, including claiming that she is on the same page with Tamina heading into her "A.J. vs. The World" title defense at WrestleMania.

The heels isolated Eva Marie for the majority of the match, then Naomi tagged in and the action broke down. Following the chaos, Tamina smashed Naomi with a superkick for the pin and the win. A.J. then jumped into the ring to celebrate with Tamina, who sold that she did appreciate A.J. taking her spotlight. But, A.J. gave Tamina a big squeeze to make sure everything was all right.

WINNERS: Team Tamina at 5:18.

[Break]

Raw Replay: John Cena's night ended with a No Contest decision vs. Luke Harper and wearing a sheep mask against his will.

Back in the arena, Wade Barrett's music interrupted. "Bad News" Barrett took his place atop the arena on his podium and noted he has some bad news. Barrett said it's clear Cena is freaked out, just like everyone in the arena when they look in the mirror. Bad News told everyone to wear the same mask that Cena wore on Raw because that way fans's friends, family, and the average person in the street would never have to be confronted by their hideous faces. Ha ha ha. Ha ha ha.

Up Next: IC Title on the line.

[Break]

3 -- IC champion BIG E. vs. DOLPH ZIGGLER -- Intercontinental Title match

Tony Chimel handled formal ring introductions for this week's main event. Back-and-forth, babyface-oriented match to start. Big E. then took control heading to break. Meanwhile, the announcers stressed Ziggler in a tough spot, with this being his third match in 24 hours. Ziggler fought off Big E., but couldn't execute his finisher. Straps down, then Big tossed Ziggler high into the air before finishing with the Big Ending to pin and win.

Post-match: Ziggler and Big E. showed respect with an embrace. Big E. advances to WrestleMania as IC champion.

WINNER: Big E. at 7:24 to retain the IC Title. A needed showcase match for Big E., and Ziggler was a good opponent for the supporting role.
