WWE Main Event TV results
June 5, 2013
Taped 6/4/13 in Long Island, N.Y.
Aired on Ion Television
By Michael Cupach, PWTorch contributor

[Q1]

-WWE open.

-Main Event music video followed by pyro in the arena. Josh Mathews welcomes everyone to Main Event on Ion. Josh is joined again by The Miz and Ricardo Rodriguez!

-Sheamus and Antonio Cesaro make their respective entrances and Josh calls Cesaro a real-life Jason Statham (what?).

1 - SHEAMUS vs. ANTONIO CESARO

Both men start off chain-wrestling to a stalemate. Sheamus uses his brute strength to take Cesaro down with a hard shoulder-block. Cesaro takes a minute to collect his thoughts, then he gets behind Sheamus and takes him down. Sheamus rolls to the apron. Cesaro goes after him, but Sheamus catapualts over the top rope with a shoulder tackle. The Miz and Ricardo talk about how Cesaro runs up and down mountains with 200 pound bags of sand on his shoulders and other irregular methods of training. Powerslam by Sheamus, Cesaro rolls to the floor, Sheamus chases him, and he rams him into the barricade.

Back in the ring, Sheamus tries clubbing forearm to the chest, but Cesaro blocks and runs Sheamus shoulder-first into the ringpost. Cesaro follows up with a running boot to the skull, knocking his head back into the post. Sheamus hits the floor and looks to be knocked loopy.

Cesaro has Sheamus in a resthold when Main Event returns. Sheamus powers out, but runs into a powerslam. Sheamus kicks out at two and Cesaro tries again, but Sheamus kicks out again. (I like when guys try a pin a second time after a kick out, to me it is one of those little things that adds to the match.) Antonio sticks to Sheamus and keeps him off his feet with a clothesline, then he toys a little bit with him while Sheamus tries to make it back to his feet.

Body shots by Cesaro. Sheamus tries White Noise, but Cesaro counters. Sheamus ties Cesaro up in the ropes and clubs away on him. Sheamus gives Cesaro a receipt for earlier by ramming him face-first into the steel post.

[Q2] White Noise is reversed into a Crossface Chicken Wing, made famous by Bob Backlund, but Sheamus powers out. White Noise out of nowhere by Sheamus, who has come alive. He goes up top for a catapault, but Cesaro catches him in mid-air with a forearm uppercut for a very close nearfall that had the crowd on the edge of their seats! Cesaro goes up top and he comes off with a flying knee to the temple of Sheamus for another nearfall! Cesaro is pulling out all the stops tonight!

Chicken wing is locked in. Sheamus looks to be ready to tap, but he manages to get himself to the ropes to cause the break. Cesaro pounds away on Sheamus with a series of forearms and tries the Neutralizer, but Sheamus turns it into White Noise and a Brogue Kick to pick up the win!

WINNER: Sheamus by pinfall in 15:24.

Mike's Reax: With matches like that, why does Cesaro need silly gimmicks? It is such a shame that he isn’t getting high-profile wins and wrestling at the top of the card. He is so talented and is able to keep a crowd engaged in his matches, I don’t understand why he is considered boring by those in WWE that make decisions. Solid match tonight!

-At the announce table, Josh Mathews sets up the Raw Rebound, which features the return of Stephanie and Vince McMahon. The Miz calls Stephanie on Raw “always must-see TV,” and I call “bravo sierra” on that!

-Raw Rebound. Steph and Vince won’t let Triple H to wrestle on Raw against Curtis Axel. They call Axel beneath Hunter and I question how that does any good for Axel! Stephanie continually called Triple H “Paul” throughout Raw. I wonder if he will be shedding the Triple H moniker as he starts to take over more of the day by day responsibilities for Vince. I think it would be silly if he went on conference calls in ten years and was introduced as the COO of WWE, Triple H.

[Q3]

-The Usos make their way to the ring, they are in action, next!

(Commercial)

-This Friday on Smackdown, The Miz hosts Miz TV and his guests will be Team Hell No and Randy Orton.

-Rhodes Scholars make their entrance, they face The Uso’s!

2 - RHODES SCHOLARS vs. THE USOS

Cody starts things off with Jimmy. He works over Cody and makes the quick tag to Jey and they double-team Cody. Cody makes a tag to Sandow, who gets chopped by Jey and introduced to the turnbuckle, face-first! Jimmy is tagged back in, as is Cody. Cody catches him with a Goldust-style punch to the face. Cody gets hung up on the top rope, then Jimmy comes back in the ring and puts Cody in a resthold. Jey is tagged in and Sandow distracts Jey long enough for Cody to cheap-shot him and then drop a knee on him.

Sandow is tagged in. He misses a knee drop and Jey Uso comes alive with a series of flying forearms, taking Cody off the apron. Jey goes up top to give him a Superfly Splash, but Cody pulls Sandow to the floor and Jey dives on top of both of them as Main Event goes to a break!

(Commercial)

Main Event returns at 8:00 with The Usos having the upper hand. Jimmy Uso gets hit by Sandow, who tags in Cody. Cody has little luck again. Jey comes off the top rope with a smash to the shoulder, then Jey misses a charge in the corner and Cody nails him with a neckbreaker for a two count. He tags in Sandow, who backs Jey into the corner and drives his shoulder into the mid-section. Elbow of Disdain by Sandow gets a two count on The Uso.

[Q4] Headlock by Sandow as Josh comments on The Usos’s facepaint while Jey tries to make a tag, but Cody cuts him off. Cody stomps away on Jey while the crowd chants for the Usos. Alabama Slam by Cody, who brings Damien back in. Damien misses a clothesline, then both men hit each other with one.

Jey makes the hot tag, and Jimmy spinwheel kicks Cody and then charges in the corner with a running booty to the face. Not as nice as when Kelly Kelly did it! Sandow breaks up Jimmy’s rampage and Cody hits Jimmy with the Beautiful Disaster for a two count from Jey breaks up the count. Superkick by Jimmy, then he tags in Jey who Superfly Splashes Cody for the win!

WINNERS: The Usos by pin in 13:21.

-Recap of the Ryback and John Cena feud.

-Justin Gabriel is out, he is having a match next.

(Commercial)

3 - JUSTIN GABRIEL vs. CURT HAWKINS

Look who is back! New look and new haircut for Curt. Curt backs Justin into the corner and then explodes out with a clothesline to take the Capetown Werewolf down. Suplex by Hawkins as Miz goes into Hawkins history of being a tag champions with Zack Ryder back in the day. Chinlock by Hawkins, grounding Gabriel.

Gabriel reverses out and kicks the hell out of Curt. Gabriel does a move that looks like a back suplex, but he turns it into a powerbomb for a two count. Hawkins comes back with a series of forearms to the grill of Gabriel for another two count. Hawkins yells at Justin and then misses a charge in the corner. Gabriel take him down with a kick to the jaw and then puts Hawkins away with the 450 splash for the victory!

WINNERS: Justin Gabriel in 3:36.
