WWE Saturday Morning Slam Results
February 23, 2013
Aired on CW - Episode #27
Report by James Caldwell, PWTorch assistant editor

This week's Slam started with a crowd shot as the voice-over man advertised the Divas in action this morning - Natalya against Divas champion Kaitlyn - and the opening match of "Real American" Jack Swagger facing Jey Uso.

This led to a video package documenting Jack Swagger's return to WWE after "walking away from WWE" to re-train and re-focus. No mention of the controversial aspect of Swagger's heel run. The video then focused on Jey Uso's background.

In-ring: Jey and Jimmy Uso came out on-stage for their traditional war dance intro before commentators Josh Mathews and his twin, The Miz, introduced the show from ringside. A pre-Zeb Colter Jack Swagger was introduced next. Mathews noted this is Swagger's first appearance on Slam.

1 -- JACK SWAGGER vs. JEY USO (w/Jimmy Uso)

Once the bell sounded, Swagger nailed a take-down to put Jey on the mat. Swagger continued to work on Uso, trying to wear him down, as Miz talked himself up on commentary. Uso then escaped and knocked Swagger to the outside. Jey followed with a suicide dive that put Swagger on the floor, sending Slam to break three minutes in.

[Commercial Break]

Coming back from break, "unstable" A.J. Lee provided this week's Don't Try This At Home message.

Back in the ring, Swagger re-took control in the ring as wild camerawork made sure Swagger's offense to the head was not focused on, per the Slam policy. Swagger wore down Uso as Mathews talked football, impressing Miz. Mathews then noted he doesn't think it will be long until Swagger inserts himself into the World Title picture. Apparently the voice-over commentary was recorded a few weeks ago, too.

Swagger and Uso kind of collided at 8:30, putting both men on the mat. Jimmy Uso tried to rally the crowd behind Jey, who reached his feet and landed forearm strikes. Uso followed with a Samoan Drop before delivering a corner attack that rocked Miz and Mathews on commentary. Uso then wanted to finish off Swagger with a top-rope splash, but Swagger popped to his feet and emphatically suplexed Uso off the top rope. Uso then tried to come back with a superkick, but Swagger ducked underneath and slapped on the Patriot Act. Uso tried to find an escape route, but couldn't, and he tapped out, giving Swagger the win.

WINNER: Swagger via submission at 11:04.

Up Next: "Fighting Champion" Divas champion Kaitlyn faces "Hart Dungeon" Natalya in this morning's main event.

[Commercial Break]

Promo: WWE dramatically advertised an "all-new" version of Saturday Slam in the Vortexx next week. Cryptic.

Recap: Jack Swagger was too much for Jey Uso in this morning's opening match.

Saturday Morning Spotlight: Divas champion Kaitlyn. The focus was on Kaitlyn capturing the Divas Title for the first time after working her way up the ladder. Voice-over commentary included notes about Kaitlyn's powerlifting background and being from Houston.

In-ring: Divas champion Kaitlyn was introduced first for the main event. Mathews described her as a "bit quirky," while Miz said she believes she is the "perfect combination" of strength and beauty. Mathews also noted Kaitlyn has an obsession with facial hair, which WWE played up in this week's Smackdown Backstage Fallout when Kaitlyn "bumped into" Cody Rhodes and his mustache. Natalya was out next to face the Divas champ.

2 -- Divas champion KAITLYN vs. NATALYA -- non-title match

Respect, then back-and-forth action led to an early mid-match commercial break.

[Commercial Break]

Back from break, Kaitlyn was in control after over-powering Natalya during the break. Natalya used her experience advantage to take control moments later, though, before trying the Sharpshooter, but Kaitlyn blocked. They came to their feet, then Kaitlyn made her full comeback and finished off Natalya with her power finisher for the win. After Kaitlyn celebrated and smiled to the crowd, she asked for a handshake from Natalya. Respect was acknowledged as Mathews and Miz signed off for this week's show.

WINNER: Kaitlyn at 5:50. Natalya is a good opponent for Kaitlyn to work with as Kaitlyn tries to grow into the shoes of being the top Diva on the roster by virtue of holding the Divas Title.
