----- WWE Saturday Morning Slam results
October 13, 2012
Aired on CW - Episode #8
Report by James Caldwell, PWTorch assistant editor
This week's show opened with an arena shot and plug for the Saturday morning main event of Sin Cara vs. Jinder Mahal. Josh Mathews and Santino then introduced the show as IC champion The Miz made his way to the ring. Next out was Justin Gabriel to face Miz in the opener. Of note, this is the first episode to feature more than one match on a Saturday morning.
1 -- IC champion THE MIZ vs. JUSTIN GABRIEL -- non-title match
As the announcers talked up Gabriel as a daredevil, Miz showboated in the ring to frustrate Gabriel. Miz then dominated before Gabriel teased a comeback. Gabriel tried to finish his comeback with a top-rope move, but Miz crotched Gabriel and followed up with the Skullcrushing Finale for the pin.
WINNER: Miz at 3:57. Basic reinforcement of Miz's heelish tendencies.
Still to come: Sin Cara vs. Jinder Mahal in the main event.
Third Degree: WWE interviewed various stars on their favorite historical WWE entrance theme. Respondents included Dolph Ziggler, Kofi Kingston and Daniel Bryan (both selected Ultimate Warrior), John Cena, Beth Phoenix, Layla, and Kaitlyn.
Video feature: Jim Johnston, the composer of WWE entrance themes. The video included a look inside Johnston's studio, where he's created numerous WWE themes, including his personal favorites of Stone Cold, The Rock, Big Show, DX, and Triple H.
Next Up: Cara vs. Mahal in the main event.
2 -- SIN CARA vs. JINDER MAHAL
Mood lighting for this match. Santino talked up Cara as the ultimate underdog, tapping into the historical Rey Mysterio presentation. Mahal controlled early on, but Cara took control momentarily, which sent Mahal scurrying to the outside for a breather.
Before returning from break, Justin Gabriel handled this week's "Don't Try This At Home" message. Back in the ring, Mahal worked over Cara, but could not put him away, even after a powerbomb (they cut away to Mathews and Santino at the point of impact). Cara then came back with a top-rope Swanton Bomb for the pin and the win. Saturday Slam then concluded with Cara standing tall in the ring.
WINNER: Cara at 9:13. There was no mention of Mahal's recent association with Drew McIntyre and Heath Slater. Instead, WWE kept things real basic with a pinch of xenophobia with an underdog, high-flying babyface trying to overcome the foreigner.
