- Alberto Del Rio promo. Alberto came out with Ricardo and got a good response playing up his new face gimmick. He was for the people and talked about how he worked hard to achieve the American Dream of coming from another country and making it here. Randy Orton interrupted and wanted a piece of Jack Swagger; he asked Del Rio to step aside, but Booker T came out instead. I was completely blindsided by Booker making a match for later tonight that didn’t involve all men in the ring! He booked Sheamus vs. Wade Barrett and gave Orton his match against Swagger.
1 - SHEAMUS vs. DAMIEN SANDOW
Sandow cut a promo before the match calling for the fall of the WWE’s false idol, Sheamus. Sandow vowed to end his reign of terror. Pretty standard stuff from Damien Sandow. According to Josh Mathews, it is Sheamus’s new life purpose to put an end to The Shield. Good back and forth match between these two - Sheamus gave Sandow a lot of offense, and Damien looked pretty good against a top guy like Sheamus. JBL and Josh reiterated that Sheamus’s last two losses to The Shield have not sat well with him and may keep him from being focused. The finish came after a Brogue Kick, clean win for Sheamus.
-Highlights from the WrestleMania 30 press conference in New Orleans is shown. Vince’s "son," Stephanie, made the announcement that the city will host WrestleMania next year. Stephanie has quite the deep voice there...
-A video package of The Shield dominating everyone in the WWE is shown. Clips of them pinning Ryback and Chris Jericho are shown over and over.
2 - KAITLYN & LAYLA vs. AKSANA & TAMINA
Before the match, the WWE Active App caught up with Kaitlyn who had a run-in with Cody. She says she loves the mustache, and Cody calls it a “lovestache!” I thought I was watching a PPV for second, as the Divas got more than 90 seconds of ring/TV time. The faces pretty much squashed the heels; it's tough to make Tamina a killer Diva when she gets zero offense in on Layla and Kaitlyn. Kaitlyn won with a spear on Tamina.
-Rock’s WWE Title celebration is re-shown. Cena vs. Punk on Raw this Monday is plugged.
-Backstage, Zeb Colter gave Jack Swagger a pep talk. Wade Barrett interrupted to give Jack some words of encouragement, and Zeb called him a foreigner who is part of the problem and told him that he needs to leave this country along with Alberto Del Rio. I can’t tell if this angle/Zeb character is uncomfortable or edgy. This is starting to become something that while I might think it is a hot heel act, I may not want to share this portion of the show with someone who isn’t a fan. To me, it seems like it might be crossing a line.
3 - RANDY ORTON vs. JACK SWAGGER
This match kicked off Hour Two of Smackdown. This will also be Swagger's first real one-on-one match since returning a month ago. Orton controlled most of the match, and Jack kept coming back after taking much abuse, but the crowd was behind Orton. Swagger took over and worked the shoulder of Orton. He then tried the Patriot Act, but Orton handily fought out of it. Funny moment when the crowd erupted with an RKO chant, Orton moved, so they went to a different camera angle, and the RKO could barely be heard if at all. Swagger ended up picking up the win after a surprise roll-up after a Thumb to the Eye.
-The next ten minutes or so was dedicated to replays and trailers to movies.
-Sheamus interrupted Wade Barrett trying to plug his movie again, like he did on Raw. Barrett responded by pointing out that Sheamus can’t beat The Shield.
4 - THE MIZ vs. CODY RHODES
The Miz’s shoulder is still heavily taped, and Cody targeted it most of the match. The Miz picked up the win with his terrible-looking Figure-Four Leglock.
-Zeb and Jack Swagger’s “Immigration” video from Monday Night Raw is reshown. Why are guys like Josh Mathews and Michael Cole praising the “freedom of speech” that Zeb and Swagger are using instead of ripping apart their argument?
5 - WADE BARRETT vs. ALBERTO DEL RIO
Swagger and Zeb came out to scout Alberto Del Rio, then JBL and Josh noted that Del Rio nearly lost the World Title on Raw due to a near Money in the Bank cash-in. I thought it was clever how Rodriguez stole the briefcase before Dolph could cash in, as it made for an interesting near cash-in. I don’t understand why Ricardo now carries a pail, though.
Wade looked great throughout the match. Even though he is IC Champion, I feel like he deserves to be in a better role and needs to be better showcased. Putting over World Champions and NXT Rookies doesn’t seem like a great use of Barrett to me. Nevertheless, Barrett pretty much dominated the match. Bullhammer Elbow by Barrett whiffed, Del Rio locked him in the Cross Armbreaker, and it was good for the win! He stared down Jack Swagger to end the match!
