11/19 WWE Superstars Hits & Misses: Rosa Mendes, Eric Escobar, Lackluster Show

This was a rather lackluster episode of Superstars. The wrestling quality wasn't as good as it usually is. I appreciate the three match formula, but unlike last week when there were two good matches, there were none this week. Shelton Benjamin vs. Zack Ryder was ok until the end (more later). There was a squash match. The main event of Mark Henry vs. Cody Rhodes was just ok. It wasn't bad, but certainly not Hit worthy either. We got an extra video package this week with a recap of the Rey Mysterio vs. Batista feud, along with the replay of the MSG / Raw video that aired on ECW. There just wasn't anything to like about the show.

11/17 WWE ECW Hits & Misses: Intensity, Hurricane vs. Burchill, Regal & Punk vs. Christian & Truth

This was a good match and a fitting end to what has been a solid to good mid-card feud for ECW. Paul Burchill has improved, and Hurricane has shown that he appears to be back fully healthy after his injury issues. Burchill is never going to have super exciting matches, but he can have good physical matches which is what this was. I particularly liked how he played his role as growing more and more frustrated as the match proceeded when he couldn't finish off Hurricane. Hurricane looked good for his part. The match built well to the end with the big spot from the top rope as Hurricane hit a crazy spinning neck breaker to get the win. The Burchills' reaction to being done with ECW was good too.

I am a fan of WWE history and as a general rule, I enjoy these trips down memory lane. This video focusing on huge moments in Madison Square Garden was very well produced and fun to watch. It was part of the big show feel that this Raw had, with the large crowd, multiple celebrities in attendance, a special appearance by Vince McMahon who has been on Smackdown more than Raw lately, and the huge star-filled main event. I give kudos to WWE for making the show and the venue feel this special.

I have no problem with R-Truth getting a push into a feud with CM Punk, which is what I'm assuming WWE is doing. Punk needs to be feuding with a wrestler, not a referee and Truth has done a good job of getting over with the fans (at least the younger ones). He has talent in the ring and I was glad to see this rematch after their match last week. I was also glad to see a different referee other than Scott Armstrong. When TNA did a referee vs. wrestler gimmick they inexplicably had the powers that be assign ref Shane Sewell to every single match of Sheik Abdual Bashir. It made no sense and I'm glad WWE addressed the situation with Punk talking about his formal complaint and that Armstrong won't referee Punk's matches. I liked that Truth got in his own mic time before the match. The match itself was fun and built well to the point where you thought Truth might get another win, only to have Punk cheat to win, to take advantage of poor refereeing this week.

Superstars was back to the formula that has worked best for the show, three matches, two of which are two-segment. That formula generally gives better match quality, with less filler. That was certainly the case this week, starting with the good match between Matt Hardy and DH Smith. This wasn't a great match, and I would much rather see Hardy one on one against Tyson Kidd. However, I did like this match and Smith looked good. Hardy seems a bit more motivated the last few weeks, as he has actually gotten some wins for the first time in awhile. If Hardy can come up with a partner, a new feud for the Hart Dynasty could brew to get them away from Cryme Tyme which would be very good.

Overall: For the first time in a while, TNA feels like it's consistently on the right track. I might have been a bit trigger happy in criticizing the Hogan signing two weeks ago. The emphasis on AJ, Joe, Daniels, and Wolf this week was excellent. The women performed well in the little time allotted to them. I'm a bit annoyed by the MCMG's title shot being watered down, but Beer Money are still consistently fun to watch. Daniels's faint grin at the end really brought a point to the main event, and builds nicely to Sunday. Even the Cristal plotline, while incredibly stupid, was handled as well as could be by making all the actual interaction take place between Steiner and Lashley. Oh, and also—Raven! A-

I would have sent this in sooner, but for people with Comcast cable and InDemand PPV, the first airing of this event was on Wednesday, November 11 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM (instead of five days earlier in a primetime slot). Overall, I thought it was an excellent event, especially the Doi-Danielson match. I like Davey Richards's match style, but I'd like it even more if he wasn't so overly muscular, as that's ultimately just going to slow him down. ...
