RADICAN’S ROH TV REAX
AIRED JUNE 23, 2012
Baltimore, MD.

-It was nice to see Bob Evans get a television match after a lengthy career on the independents against Eddie Edwards. Bob held his own against Edwards before losing the match via backslide pin. Evans’s chest told the story of the beating he took from Edwards, but I’m sure it was all worth it to him.

-Homicide appearing on TV before facing Edwards at “Best in the World” makes their match seem more important. Homicide has been on other iPPVs, but there has been no build for his previous appearances. Homicide gave himself a leg up on Edwards by teasing a handshake before taking him out with the cop killa. Homicide is someone that could add a lot to ROH given his charisma and he would be a fresh face after not having a consistent presence in the company for several years. Hopefully ROH continues to use him going forward as they need wrestlers like him on their roster.

-I’m not convinced the company took the best route to build up the ROH TV Champion Roderick Strong vs. Tomasso Ciampa vs. Jay Lethal match tonight with the hook being that Embassy Ltd. is conspiring with Truth Martini to keep Ciampa away from Strong’s TV title. The rapid-fire back and forth camera shot promo between Nana being cut off by R.D. Evans and Martini discussing the situation in loose terms came across as cheesy comedy when it needed to be more serious to sell the angle.

-Kevin Steen better do something really newsworthy tonight. It hardly feels like there’s been a takeover since Steen one the title. Cornette not wanting Steen to appear at the affiliate’s dinner in the fall seems to be his main reason for getting the title out of Steen’s hands. The payoff of Steen taking over the company and rebuilding it in his image hasn’t been satisfying. Richards and Steen had an intense pull-apart brawl once the main event match of Steen & Jacobs vs. Richards & O’Reilly got thrown out, but overall this angle seems flat. The iPPV has the “Hostage Crisis” subtitle, but I’m not feeling any buzz for Steen’s title run thus far.

-The face ROH doesn’t film these shows in HD is a big deterrent. The show looks better than it did when they started airing last fall, but overall, not airing in widescreen nor in HD doesn’t help the product.
