RADICAN’S JCW REVIEW SERIES
BLOODYMANIA VII
AUG. 11, 2013
CAVE IN ROCK, ILL
bloodymania7-cover_1.jpg

The show started with a highlight package featuring big shots from the show. KG then came out and previewed the show for the crowd. KG sounds like he lost his voice over the course of the weekend before this show took place. As always, JCW brought in a professional looking set for the show and there’s a huge crowd in attendance.

(1) Richie Boy Bryer Wellington vs. Rikishi. KG and Shaggy made fun of the size of Wellington’s manhood in a hilarious manner as he made his entrance.

“Right now I feel like I’m molesting Bryer Wellington” – Shaggy 2 Dope

Shaggy shattered kayfabe and said Rikishi is not from the Island of Samoa, but instead he’s actually from Allentown, Pa. The crowd chanted for Rikishi to f--- up Wellington. Wellington offered a handshake, but Rikishi slapped him in the face. Wellington raked Rikishi’s eyes and rammed his head into the turnbuckle, but Rikishi no-sold it and went to town on Wellington. Rikishi set up Wellington for the stink face. He pulled down his tights and gave Wellington the stink face. I’m going to have nightmares for about a year after seeing that. Rikishi mercifully ended the match by sitting down on Wellington’s chest.

Winner: Rikishi – There wasn’t much to the match, but the commentary carried things along nicely and the crowd was hot for Rikishi hitting his signature spots.

(2) The Young Bucks (Nick & Matt Jackson) vs. The Haters (Vito & Pauly) The Haters came out with middle fingers embroidered on the back of their masks. They flipped off all the fans at ringside before getting into the ring. The Young Bucks then came out and forced the Haters to bail by teasing superkicks. The Haters jumped the Young Bucks after the bell rang and controlled the action during the early going. The Young Bucks mounted a comeback and hit a pair of slingshot splashes to the outside and the fans applauded. The Young Bucks worked over one of the Haters. The announcers said they were working over Vito, who now his name written on the back of his tights. Vito tagged out and Pauly began working over Matt. The Haters used cheap tactics to change in and out of the ring as they worked over Matt.

“This ring is a real American, it fights for the right of every man.” – KG on the red and yellow colors of the ring.

Matt finally mounted a comeback and tagged in Nick, who ran wild on the Haters. He took down the Haters with a bulldog/dropkick combination. The action broke down and the Haters hit total domination on Matt after sending Nick to the outside. The Haters went up top and they both came off the top with a double stomp on Matt, but Nick broke up the pin. Pauly then hit a sit out powerbomb onto his knees while Vito held off Matt for the win.

Winners: The Haters – The match was fun while it lasted, but I was expecting more action. It was also surprising to see The Haters get the win here, but they looked good against the Young Bucks and did a good job of getting heat from the fans.

The announcers mentioned the Young Bucks had lost on a previous show during the weekend after the match. A bat flew into the ring after the match and KG mentioned that the show was being held outdoors.

(3) Necro Butcher vs. The Rudeboy in an Island of Death match. This is a no-rope lumberjack match with no ropes around the ring. Several wrestlers came out and surrounded the ringside area. They all grabbed weapons from under the ring to presumably use to assault the participants in the match. Necro came down to the ring holding a pair of chairs. Necro was wearing a necklace made of objects I couldn’t identify. Rudeboy came out next and ran down to the ring. Necro tossed a chair to Rudeboy and they had a chair battle. Necro no-sold a chair shot to the head and went after Rudeboy. The lumberjacks went after Rudeboy. Necro then went to ringside to help him fend off the lumberjacks.

“Stay down scrubs” – Shaggy after the lumberjacks kept feeding Necro and Rudeboy. Rudeboy and Necro stacked up the lumberjacks on the outside before going at it again. Necro got a light tube and nailed Rudeboy with it. The lumberjacks recovered, but appeared to be reluctant to do their job. Necro continued to fight off a few brave lumberjacks as he dominated the action on the outside. Both guys were busted open. Necro draped Rudeboy over the steel steps and nailed him with a bunch of chair shots. Necro then obliterated a couple of jobbers that tried to go after him, which was hilarious. Rudeboy fired back and went after Necro with a pair of scissors. The lumberjacks went after Necro on the outside, so Rudeboy attacked them with the scissors.

Rudeboy cut a bunch of the jobber lumberjacks with the scissors before going after Necro. Necro fired back inside the ring and began using the scissors on Rudeboy. Necro and Rudeboy were both a bloody mess. Necro went after Rudeboy’s arm with the scissors. He then began cutting his hair and tossing it around the ring. Necro hit a DVD on a chair on Rudeboy for a 2 count. Necro hit a chair slam on Rudeboy, but he kicked out again. Necro set up a chair on the outside and tried to lift Rudeboy on his shoulders, but Rudeboy fought out of it. He then tossed Necro by the beard through the chair. Necro immediately grabbed his leg. Necro crawled back into the ring and Rudeboy hit a big clothesline and an elbow drop for the win.

It looked like part of the chair had gone through Necro’s leg when he went to the outside. Necro got a towel and wrapped it around his leg as several people checked on him. Real paramedics came out to check on Necro, who appeared to be legitimately hurt.

Winner: The Rudeboy – This was a crazy match. I’m not a fan of matches like this given the blood and the chair shots to the head. Several of the lumberjacks were bleeding in addition to Necro and The Rudeboy. I did enjoy Necro and Rudeboy tossing the lumberjacks around like ragdolls at one point. Necro’s leg injury appeared to be pretty serious.

JCW commissioner Violent J came down to the ring. Violent J said Necro Butcher had left with a bone sticking out of his leg. The fans chanted for Necro. He said JCW had been around since 1995. He said he wanted to bring out the first and only member of the JCW Hall of Fame right now. J introduced Evil Dead, who sauntered down to the ring before collapsing and crawling down the aisle. J mentioned Evil Dead’s career began after his death. Evil Dead finally got to his feet after getting into the ring and pointed to the sky. He then fell again. J said Evil Dead dies a lot. The fans chanted for Evil Dead and he got back to his feet and began throwing haymakers. This is the most unique HOF introduction I’ve ever seen. J told Evil Dead he didn’t have any opponents tonight and gave him a couple of plaques.

J said he was going to induct two new members into the JCW HOF. J said it was an honor to bring this person back to JCW to induct him into the JCW HOF. He brought out Tommy Starr aka Hollywood Chuck Hogan. Hogan came down to the ring with a Singapore cane. J presented Hogan with his plaque to induct him into the JCW HOF. Hogan unmasked and played to the crowd. He thanked the fans and said it was all possible because of them. He also thanked the wrestlers he had been in the ring with and talked about the trust and friendship he had with wrestlers in the ring that extended backstage. He then thanked J, Shaggy, and Psychopathic Records. J and Hogan hugged as the fans applauded. The fans chanted family. Hogan got back on the mic and thanked Evil Dead. Evil Dead collapsed in the ring once again for some reason. Maybe he died or he was overcome by emotion.

J introduced the next inductee in the HOF. He said he had been almost every show since day 1. J said there had never been a better heel in JCW than this man. J said this man was a favorite bad guy. J said this man wanted to tell the fans he loved them and it was so hard to tell them to f--- off. J then introduced Mad Man Pondo. J gave Pondo his JCW HOF plaque. The fans applauded as Pondo held his plaque up for the fans. Pondo got on the mic as the fans chanted his name. He talked about being in JCW for 18 years and how the fans hated him. Pondo said J had him come out and heel on the fans. Pondo said J had him do that because the fans had to have someone to throw things at. Pondo thanked JCW, the boys in the back, Psychopathic Records, ICP, and the fans. Pondo promised to be around for 18 more years. This was a nice speech from Pondo. This was one of the more unique and surprisingly touching wrestling HOF inductions I’ve seen to date.

(4) Rumble Royale match with Shane Helms, Zach Gowen, Bobby Lashley, Jimmy Wang Yang, Kevin Steen, Matt Cross, U-Gene, and Hollywood Chuck Hogan. Gowen and Steen kicked things off. A new entrant will enter the ring every 90 seconds. Steen offered a handshake, but ended up kicking Gowen low. Steen worked over Gowen’s leg. Steen jawed with the fans as he worked over Gowen. Lashley was out next. Steen tossed Gowen to Lashley, but Lashley fired Gowen back at Steen and he staggered into the corner. Lashley and Gowen worked together to put a beating on Steen. Cross was out next. Cross braced himself horizontally on the ring post and dropped an elbow on Gowen on the outside. The fans chanted Daniel Bryan at Cross. Yang came out next.

“He can wear wifebeaters all he wants as long as he doesn’t practice what he wears” – Shaggy on Yang’s attire for the Rumble Royale.

Lashley took Yang down and Gowen followed up with a dropkick off the turnbuckles. Steen teased a senton, but kicked Yang in the gut instead. He tried to get Lashley to help him, but Lashley put the boots to him. U-Gene was the next man out. U-Gene posed on the ropes with his balloon. Steen went to shake U-Gene’s hand, but Lashley tossed U-Gene over the top as he was waving to the fans against the ropes. U-Gene simply walked to the back and continued to wave to the fans. U-Gene seemed to think he had won the match. Helms was out next doing his Hurricane gimmick. Hurricane hit choke slams on Yang and Gowen. Hurricane went for a double choke slam on Steen and Cross, but Lashley nailed him with an insane spear.

“No matter how muscular are, you can’t work your eyeballs out.” Shaggy after Steen poked Lashley in the eyes. Everyone tried to throw Lashley over the top, but he fought them off. The last man out was Hollywood Chuck Hogan. Hogan ran down to the ring and hit everyone with his kendo stick until Steen blocked a shot with the kendo stick and tried to throw him over the top. Hogan’s leg got caught in the ropes, but Steen and several other man freed him and dumped him to the floor to eliminate him. Helms eliminated Yang, who had been previously announced as being eliminated when Hogan was tossed to the floor. Up Chucky said, “Now Jimmy Wang Yang has been eliminated” to a chorus of boos from the crowd. Steen continued to jaw with the fans as KG pointed out Steen had done a lot of low things during the match. Shaggy and KG had a hilarious conversation about how it was Snooki that invented the handspring elbow in the corner and not the Great Muta after Cross hit a handspring elbow on Steen in the corner. KG couldn’t remember Snooki’s full shoot name.

Steen managed to backdrop Gowen out of the ring to eliminate him. Helms went for a choke slam on Steen, but Steen kicked him low and tossed him to the floor. Steen then hit a low blow on Lashley before hitting the package piledriver on Cross. Steen tried to toss Cross out, but Cross countered him and tossed him out of the ring. The match came down to Lashley and Cross. Lashley hit a big slam on Cross and tried to toss him out, but Cross caught himself. Lashley thought Cross had been eliminated. Lashley ducked a splash off the top from Cross and Cross eventually nailed him with a kick. Both men ended up going at it up top. Cross sent Lashley down to the mat and hit a huge SSP. Cross got a military press on Lashley, but Lashley managed to slip out. Wow! Lashley then charged at Cross, but Cross low bridged him and Lashley flew over the top to the floor.

Winner: Matt Cross – This was a fun match with Steen using cheap tactics throughout the match. Cross was the star of the match with a ton of impressive spots, including getting Lashley up in a military press. The commentary was once again very funny as well with some great banter between Shaggy and KG.

(5) JCW Tag Team Champions The Ring Rydas (Ryda Red & Ryda Blue) vs. Paul London & Brian Kendrick (w/Shelly Martinez). Shaggy swatted a beetle off of KG’s shoulder before the match began. London and Blue kicked things off in the ring as the fans fired up. The Ring Rydas took control and wiped out London with a nice combination of high-flying maneuvers. London mounted a comeback on Blue and tagged in Kendrick.

“Like two rams locking horns in the Sahara Jungle” – KG on the intense lockup between Kendrick and Ryda Red.

Red and Kendrick began exchanging big chops. They then went to a big forearm exchange. London and Red went to another chop battle and the action broke down. Red and Kendrick went for a dropkick at the same time and they came to a stalemate. Kendrick backdropped Blue onto Red on the outside. London and Kendrick then wiped out the Ring Rydas with a double dive through the ropes. The fans chanted for Martinez to show her breasts. They went to a big exchange inside the ring a short time later. Red ended a big exchange of maneuvers with a DVD on London and everyone was down. Kendrick had Red in a camel clutch, but Blue broke up the pin. The Ring Rydas hit a tandem double stomp off the top into a back breaker combination on Kendrick for a nearfall. The Ring Rydas continued to work over Kendrick and hit another series of tandem maneuvers on him, but London broke up the pin. The Ring Rydas sent London to the outside and hit a double stomp off the top into a tombstone on Kendrick and he kicked out. Add another match to the list of ridiculous nearfalls. They went for another tombstone/double stomp combination on Kendrick, but London broke it up.

London went up top and hit a double stomp to the back of Red off the top, but he grabbed the bottom rope to break the pinfall. London hit another double stomp on Red off the top and Kendrick followed up with a frog splash for a nearfall. Kendrick went for sliced break, but Red tossed him to the outside. London went for a splash on Blue to the outside, but he got out of the way and London ended up hitting Kendrick. Blue then hit a crazy dive to the floor on London and Kendrick and the fans went nuts. The Ring Rydas hit another double stomp/tombstone combination on Kendrick for the win.

Winners: The Ring Rydas to retain the JCW Tag Team Titles.

Star rating: (***1/2) – This was a very good match with some great action from bell to bell. The crowd was into the match from start to finish. They went to a stretch of nearfalls that went a bit too far, but other than that minor complaint this was a really good match.

After the match, all four men and Martinez took a bow for the crowd. The Ring Rydas were then left alone in the ring to celebrate their win.

Kongo Kong was out first for the main event. His partner, The Boogeyman, was out next.

“So combined they come from the bottomless pit of the jungle.” –Shaggy on the tag team of Boogeyman & Kongo Kong.

Boogeyman shared some worms with an insane looking fan in the crowd. He then continued to eat worms while walking around the ring. He then went back to the fans and fed another man some worms.

The team of 2 Tuff Tony and Vampiro came out next. Vampiro and Tony ran down to the ring and the match started with a brawl.

(6) Kongo Kong & Boogeyman vs. Vampiro & 2 Tuff Tony. Both teams went back and forth exchanging blows inside the ring. Boogeyman and Vampiro took control of the action. Tony fired back on Kongo as the fans chanted his name. Kong ended up accidentally nailing Boogeyman with a running boot and he fell to the floor. Tony and Vampiro then hit a double clothesline to send Kongo to the floor. The action spilled to the floor and Boogeyman and Kongo took control of the action. Kong and Vampiro brawled into the crowd. Boogeyman and Tony followed suite a short time later.

“There’s no good place to get a headbutt” – KG after Boogeyman hit a headbutt on Tony in the crowd.

Boogeyman and Vampiro ended up brawling near the ring while Tony and Kong continued to brawl in the crowd. Tony set up Kong in a chair against the guardrail and nailed him with a huge running splash, which caused the crowd to go nuts. Tony went for another splash on the chair, but Kong caught him and slammed him to the ground. Kong and Tony ended up back in the ring while Boogeyman and Vampiro went at it on the ramp. Tony tried to mount a comeback on Kong, but he turned right around into a slam from Boogeyman. Kong went for a moonsault on Tony, but he got out of the way. Holy crap! The fans fired up and chanted for Tony, who went to lift Boogeyman on his shoulders only to eat a big boot from Kong. Vampiro went at it with Kong and hit an enzuguri, but Kong didn’t go down. Boogeyman tried to throw worms at Tony, but he got out of the way and the worms flew into Kong’s face. Kong and Boogeyman went face-to-face. They began brawling. Boogeyman hit a big punch to Kong’s throat and Vampiro followed up with the nail in the coffin. Tony followed up with the Tonysault, which was good for the pin.

Boogeyman and Vampiro squared off after the match. Boogeyman began strutting and peeling the pain off of his face. Tony gave Boogeyman his bag of worms and he spit them into Kong’s face. Kong bailed and freaked out at ringside. Boogeyman offered Vampiro some worms as a peace offering of sorts. He gave worms to Tony and Vampiro. Tony fed the worms to Boogeyman and he strutted around the ring. Boogeyman then danced to Tony’s music as the fans applauded.

Winners: JCW Champions 2 Tuff Tony & Vampiro – This was a crazy brawl that went all over the place. The crowd was really into the action once it spilled into the crowd. Boogeyman was hilarious after the match once he made peace with Tony and Vampiro.

Overall score: (8.0) – JCW’s biggest show of the year, BloodyMania, which is held at the Gathering of the Juggalos is always a spectacle. The show had a huge crowd and a great mix of big names stars from the past and independent talent. Where else will you see a show with The Young Bucks, Kevin Steen, Bobby Lashley, Shane Helms, Rikishi, Paul London, and Brian Kendrick mixed with the JCW regulars?

JCW had a nice setup for this event with a stage and entrance ramp. The ring had a red and yellow theme this year. I don’t see many independent shows that have this kind of a setup. The only downside was the crowd wasn’t mic’d well, so the heat for the matches didn’t come across, but it was easy to tell the crowd was into just about everything on the show.

The commentary carries these shows, as KG and Shaggy are very funny and have great chemistry as they comment on the matches. I missed out on their banter between most of the matches because it was cut from this release. “BloodyMania 7” isn’t a traditional independent wrestling show, as it focuses more on colorful characters than great in-ring action.

There were some good matches on the card. The Young Bucks vs. The Haters was a solid back and forth match that seemed to end when it was just getting started. The Haters do a good job of getting heat from the crowd, but the match seemed to end abruptly with the Haters getting a clean win. The best match on the card from an in-ring standpoint was The Ring Rydas vs. London & Kendrick. They had a fantastic back and forth contest. There were a few too many nearfalls, but overall this was a blast to watch and the fans ate it up.

I’m not a big fan of Death matches, but Necro Butcher vs. Rudeboy was entertaining at times before Necro suffered a serious leg injury towards the end of the match. They had one great spot in the match where Necro and Rudeboy fought off all of the lumberjacks while standing back to back and they all ended up stacked up on top of each other outside the ring, which made for a crazy visual. There was a ton of blood in the match, as even the lumberjacks bled. I’m not a big fan of excessive bleeding in the ring, given the dangers of diseases transmitted through blood, so hopefully everyone in the match was tested before participating in the match. Necro’s leg injury appeared to be very serious, as it looked like part of the chair that Rudeboy tossed him through from the apron pierced his leg.

I really enjoyed the JCW HOF induction ceremony. It was as ridiculous as you would expect. Evil Dead was once again a highlight, as he continually collapsed in the ring during the ceremony. Despite the over the top nature of the inductions, which were handled by JCW commissioner Violent J, Hollywood Chuck Hogan and Mad Man Pondo appeared to be genuinely touched by their inductions.

The Rumble Royale was fun with a crazy mix of top independent talent and top names from the past. Steen did a good job of getting heat from the crowd using cheap tactics, but Matt Cross, who is vastly underappreciated, stole the show here hitting some crazy maneuvers. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw him lift Lashley over his head towards the tail end of the match. That was incredible.

The main event featured a fun brawl with Boogeyman & Kong vs. 2 Tuff Tony & Vampiro. They brawled all over the venue and into the crowd. The highlight of the crowd brawling was Tony hitting a crazy running splash on Kong, who was seated against the guardrail on the outside. Boogeyman is beloved by the JCW fans and it was hilarious to watch him dance to Tony’s theme song after the match after making peace with Tony and Vampiro.

“BloodyMania 7” was a spectacle. You’re not going to see a bigger and more enthusiastic from any other independent promotion. If you’re looking to spend a couple of hours watching some fun matches with funny commentary from Shaggy 2 Dope and Kevin Gill, you can’t go wrong with this show.
