Daily discussion: Why do you think WWE... - Radican's Wrestling Community | FacebookDaily discussion: Why do you think WWE debuts a large number of new talents as heels?
Maybe because heels can make a bigger impact like beating up on John Cena or another face to generate a reaction. Debuting as a face seems to be harder to get people to like them because their faces are too cookie-cutter, and they may know it.Erik McNeal
I've heard wrestlers say in interviews that it is easier to play a heel than a face, so it makes sense to get introduced as a heel first to learn the ropes.Joseph Jonathan Herrera
Brian here: playing a heel is more challenging than playing a face. For guys with wrestling ability, the ability to effectively play a heel will show what they have to offer as an overall worker. From a wrestling point of view, it's also easier to play heel, as short cuts and less flashy moves are an accepted part of heel offence. It's also educational in that a heel has traditionally been spot caller in a match and should learn to create the ebb and flow of a contest. Take your pickRadican's Wrestling Community
I think it has a lot to do with getting the right reaction from the crowd when someone debuts. It's easy to get booed by just doing the typical heel behaviors. However if someone comes out as a baby face and the crowd has no idea who that person is, they aren't as likely to cheer for them unless they are booked against someone who just generally draws a lot of heat.Robert Charlton
I was thinking in terms of generating heat and in promos, would you say that is the case as well? It seems that the more recent members of the roster from developmental (Shield, Cesaro, Axel) all had extensive in-ring experience, or are being heavily protected (Langston). Would you say this is true as well? It's a great debate to try to figure out what the WWE is thinking long-term.Joseph Jonathan Herrera
When new people show up we're already inclined to dislike them. This is especially compounded if they show up doing face stuff and we're "supposed" to like them. Rocky Maivia, Bo Dallas, etc. Having new guys debut as heels allows them to attack the biggest star and make an impact immediately.Martin Tsang
Brian here: when I say challenging, I mean that generally heels have to put more into what they do than just wrestle. Neither should be difficult, but being babyface means you just act nice.Radican's Wrestling Community
No new face will move merchandise! If sincara didnt do it, who wilCarter Troy Banks
Or in the case of the Miz just change nothing and expect cheers lolJoseph Jonathan Herrera
I think a new face needs to stand up to a heel. Have them stop a beating and engage in a fight. That typically gets people on their side when the guy comes to the rescue.Erik McNeal
Believe me, a person can debut as a heel and have no one give a shit just as much as they could if they debuted as a face. I'm still bearish on Curt(is) Axel's ability to draw heat. If he starts throwing in a lot of "you people", I'd get worried quick.Martin Tsang
well, you see it in comic books all the time. normally, new characters introduced into a series are going to be villains. who wants to see a new sidekick when you can have a new nemesis? any ongoing series (comics, TV shows, etc.) is far more likely to introduce new blood as opposition to an already established protagonist.Steven Kølnes
Less pressure. Easier to get booed than cheered. Becoming a successful face takes time. Need emotional investment from a fan. If a new heel beats up an established face he can get heat quicker than trying to establish himself as a faceNick Morris
