RADICAN’S BLACK FRIDAY BUYER’S GUIDE: PART 3
If you’re going to be shopping for the best that independent wrestling and the video game industry had to offer this year, here’s a look at some of the best picks in the miscellaneous category.
-ECW Living Dangerously 1999: RF Video is releasing all of the old ECW PPVs on DVD. This is the first one I watched and it brought back a lot of memories. The DVD itself features the entire original broadcast of the PPV complete with video packages, ECW plugs, and entrances with original music.
The show itself shows how thin the ECW roster was at the time after being purged by WWE and WCW. The real gem here is the first RVD-Jerry Lynn match that put their feud on the map. They had an amazing match and it holds up well in this context. Taz defending the ECW Championship against Sabu is also a very good match. If you were a fan of ECW or want to start a collection of ECW PPVs now that they’re being released on DVD, this isn’t a bad place to start.

-New Jack 2012 Shoot Interview: We all knew New Jack’s retirement from shoot interview wouldn’t last. This was supposed to be his last shoot interview ever, but he went on to release several more this year. This was the best of the bunch, as New Jack was in rare form on this interview.
Perhaps the highlight of this release is New Jack challenging Abdullah the Butcher to bring his papers to prove he doesn’t have hepatitis C in response to Abdullah saying that New Jack has AIDS. Jack shows his medical papers to the camera and goes on a memorable rant about how wrestlers should have to submit to medical screening if they’re going to bleed in the ring. He made a lot of points that I agreed with during this release. This one isn’t for the squeamish and his rant on ex-girlfriend Terri Runnels was a bit much, but New Jack did try to deliver a memorable interview before retiring from shoot interviews.

-Shoot with Honky Tonk Man 2011: There are loads of funny stories on Honky Tonk Man’s most recent interview with RF Video. Honky talks about patching up his relationship with Jerry Lawler, so you get a rare interview with him not taking shots at The King.
You have to take some of the things that Honky says with a grain of salt, as it appears he has an axe to grind or is being entertaining. Honky’s rant on Bischoff and Hogan is worth the price of admission alone here. Although Honky is mostly being entertaining during this interview, he has a lot of interesting thinks to say.

-WWE 13: I haven’t finished my full review of THQ’s latest installment in the long-running series of WWE videogames. They did a lot of things right this year to improve on WWE 12. For starters, Attitude Era mode, which allows you to relive storylines and angles from the Attitude Era complete with authentic commentary from Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler, is a blast to play. As you play through this mode you can unlock tons of new wrestlers and other extras. Going through the Attitude Era mode as the most fun I had playing a wrestling game in a long time.
The rest of the game is a blast as well. The roster is huge, especially with the backlog of performers from the Attitude Era. The commentary for the main game gets a bit repetitive at times, but THQ made some small improvements across the board to the control scheme that makes the game a lot more fun to play this year.
You can purchase WWE 13 for PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii at all major gaming retailers. Check out Walmart for the best price on the game this weekend.
