As the hamster wheel that is WWE creative continues to spin its wheels, the one thought that crossed my mind last night was that I want something to grasp on. Give me something that makes me want to come back week after week. Last night, WWE did none of that.
If you paid 60 bucks for WWE’s Survivor Series, which was mostly a snooze-fest until three men came out dressed in black and attacked Ryback before putting him through a table with a triple powerbomb, you might have gotten a little burst of adrenaline. Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns made a splash at Survivor Series turning an ordinary PPV into something potentially memorable.
Last night, the wheels fell off. WWE hit fans with waves of matches and lousy follow up segments to the A.J., Vickie, Cena, and Ziggler storyline. I’ve seen better acting in straight to DVD movies (WWE movie releases excused in this case). The matches on the show were uninspired with most of them thrown out with very little context and no build.
A look into the current mindset of WWE creative might help us gain some understanding. Randy Orton vs. Alberto Del Rio 2/3 Falls? Fire it at the wall and if it sticks, it will end up on the show. Sandow vs. Sheamus? The folks will love that! Tell Damien to throw in a couple of extra chinlocks to get people excited as the show drags on!
As a big surprise, we are going to hold off on getting to the part show everyone wants to see until the very end. We are going to give the people a hint of what this new faction from NXT is all about. What’s that? The prestigious members of the WWE Universe that didn’t see Survivor Series need to see Ryback take the powerbomb through the table again? Let’s go with that. After all, they’ll be back next week!
After watching Raw last night and suffering through a boring and uninspired show, I just want my damn balloons.
