(1) The RockNes Monsters (Johnny Yuma & Johnny Goodtime) beat The Fightin’ Taylor Boys (Ryan Taylor & Brian Cage-Taylor) in a DDT 4 2012 First Round match. This was an excellent opener. Cage-Taylor caught Yuma going for a dive on the outside, but Goodtime hit a huge flip dive. A short time later, Cage-Taylor took control in the ring and hit an impressive delayed vertical suplex while doing squats on Goodtime. Cage-Taylor then really got the crowd going with an impressive double springboard moonsault on Goodtime. Goodtime finally made the hot tag to Yuma and the action broke down. The RockNes Monsters finally got the win on Cage-Taylor with an enzuguri/ace crusher combination. (***3/4)

(2) Future Shock (Adam Cole & Kyle O’Reilly) beat The Dynasty (Joey Ryan & Scorpio Sky) in a DDT 4 2012 First Round match. The Dynasty tried to beat O’Reilly quickly by isolating him during the early stages of the match and forcing Cole to the outside. Future Shock eventually took control of the match with a combination of moves on Sky. Future Shock controlled much of the action, but the Dynasty made a comeback and the action broke down. O’Reilly hit a shoulder capture suplex on Sky for a nearfall. After a big exchange, Future Shock hit total elimination on Sky for the win. This was another very good match. (***1/4)

(3) 2 Husky Black Guys (El Generico & Willie Mack) beat Roderick Strong & Sami Callihan in a DDT 4 2012 First Round match. This match was just as good as the opener with a lot of fantastic action. Mack and Callihan had a big exchange during the early stages of the match that saw Callihan nail Mack with several hard strikes to the head, but Mack fired up and nailed him with an enzuguri. Mack and Generico took control and did a tribute to Generico’s old partner Human Tornado by doing stereo dancing kicks in opposite corners on Callihan and Strong that caused the crowd to go nuts.

Strong and Callihan took control and isolated Mack. They worked over his leg for a long period of time. Generico finally got the hot tag and ran wild on Callihan before the action broke down. After some great exchanges and nearfalls, Generico finished off Strong with a brainbuster. If you like hard-hitting action, these four men brought it in this tag match. (***3/4)

Callihan got on the mic after the match and said he was upset about losing. He ended up answering Kevin Steen’s open challenge for the PWG World Title later in the night.

(4) The Super Smash Bros. (Player Uno & Player Dos) beat The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) in a DDT 4 2012 First Round match. This was a great match. The Super Smash Bros. are way over in PWG and with the Young Bucks playing their heel role to perfection during this match, the crowd ate it up. The Young Bucks got the heat on Uno during the early stages of the match after hitting him with a headscissors/dropkick combination on the apron. They used short cuts to work over Uno and did some great teases leading to the eventual hot tag to Dos. The action broke down and Dos went for a double Pele kick on the Young Bucks, but they countered it with a nasty double superkick for a nearfall. There were some great nearfalls down the stretch and the crowd went crazy after Uno broke up a pin on Dos after the Young Bucks hit him with a spiked tombstone piledriver. The Young Bucks went for more bang for your buck on Dos, but he rolled up Matt while Uno held onto Nick for the pin. (****)

(5) 2 Husky Black Guys (El Generico & Willie Mack) beat The RockNes Monsters in a DDT 4 2012 Semi-Final match. The match started slowly, but built to a good climax. The action picked up after Mack sent the RockNes Monsters to the outside and he and Generico nailed them with stereo flip dives over the top rope. Both teams went back and forth until Generico ended up missing a running yokuza kick in the corner and spilled over the top to the outside. Goodtime and Yuma then went to work on Mack with a series of tandem moves while keeping Generico away from the action. They ended up hitting the ace crusher/enzuguri combo on Mack that they used to win the previous match, but Mack kicked out. With Generico still on the outside, Goodtime hit a doublestomp off the top that connected with Mack’s head and then ran across the ring and wiped out Generico with a flip dive. Mack suddenly fired up after taking a lot of punishment and hit a crazy piledriver on Yuma out of nowhere for the win. (***1/4)

(6) The Super Smash Bros. (Player Uno & Player Dos) beat Future Shock in a DDT 4 2012 Semi-Final match. This was the match of the night and had the crowd on fire. They started out with neither team being able to get the upper hand during the early stages of the match. The SSB got the upper hand and began working over O’Reilly, which built to a big exchange of strikes between Uno and O’Reilly that left both men down on the mat. Dos and Cole tagged in and wrestled at an incredible pace until both men hit dives to the outside on their respective opponents through the ropes and the crowd went crazy.

Future Shock isolated Uno later in the match and nailed him with a series of kicks for a nearfall. A few minutes later, Uno went up top and hit a gorgeous moonsault on Cole, but he kicked out at the last second and the crowd went nuts again. Both teams exchanged nearfalls as the crowd got hotter and they built up to a big exchange where Dos evaded total elimination from Cole and O’Reilly and nailed them with a double Pele kick in the spot of the night. After another series of exchanges the SSB got O’Reilly alone in the ring and finished him off with the fatality for the win. (****1/2)

The crowd went crazy after the match and chanted for both teams.

(7) PWG Champion Kevin Steen beat Sami Callihan. Callihan jumped Steen at the bell and they brawled all over the building. This was about what you would expect and it was pretty good, although Steen using this style much longer is eventually going to burn out. Steen got the upper hand after crotching Callihan on the post and then kissing him. Steen ended up putting on Callihan’s jacket at one point and mocked him while nailing him with some brutal chops and strikes. Callihan eventually mounted a comeback and hit his signature slingshot splash for a 2 count. He then took Steen through the ropes with a big shoulder tackle, but Steen fired right back with a powerbomb on the apron.

Steen went for a swanton and took forever, which allowed Callihan to get his knees up. Callihan ended up nailing him with a big running forearm to the head moments later for a nearfall. Steen fired back and hit two powerbombs on the apron a short time later, but only got a two count back inside the ring. Steen finally finished off the match with a low blow and a package piledriver. This was a good brawling match. (***1/2)

After the match, Steen said he didn’t like Callihan before but now he likes him a little bit. He also said he hates him a little bit. Steen said they would both go back to their home promotions, which he didn’t name, but he said they should do battle again in PWG down the line after he said PWG was the best promotion in the world. Callihan shook hands with Steen as the crowd chanted for him to come back.

(8) The Super Smash Bros. (Player Uno & Player Dos) beat 2 Husky Black Guys (El Generico & Willie Mack) to win the DDT 4 2012 Tournament. This was a bit slow at first with Generico appearing to hurt his back during the early stages of the match. All four men looked a little fatigued, but the second half of the match was really good. The match built up to a spot where Generico hit a springboard moonsault to the outside to take out the SSB and the crowd went nuts. They went to a big exchange where everyone hit moves that closed with Mack hitting a huge clothesline on Dos and the crowd went nuts.

The SSB ended up going at it with Generico on the apron and Uno ended up pushing him into Dos, who suplexed him off the apron and into Mack, which caused the crowd to go nuts again. The match to another spot where Generico hit Dos with the running yokuza kick in the corner. He then went for the brainbuster, but Dos rolled him up for a 2 count. The finish saw Dos counter a super brainbuster attempt from Generico into an inverted hurricanrana off the top. With Mack out of the picture, the SSB hit the fatality on Generico for the win. (***1/4)

After the match, the Young Bucks attacked all four men until Steen ran in to make the save. Matt got on the mic and hit was hard to hear him, but he said the Young Bucks are the kings of DDT4 and said the SSB weren’t the real winners. Matt said they want a match against Steen and Super Dragon for the PWG Tag Team Championship, but he called him Super f----t. That was really unnecessary and then Steen made it into a joke by repeating it when he answered Matt. Steen told the Young Bucks to go home and pleasure each other.

Steen put over the SSB and Mack. He told the SSB to be ready for their title shot as a result of winning DDT4. He teased putting over Generico, but ended up telling him he’s still a piece of s—t. The show closed with the fans chanting PWG as Mack and Generico shook hands with the SSB.

Overall thoughts: (9.0) – DDT4 2012 goes down as one of the best shows I’ve seen out of any wrestling promotion this year. The SSB put on a string of awesome matches in the first and second round of the tournament and are really getting a lot of buzz for their work in PWG. Their matches against the Young Bucks and Future Shock are both going out of your way to see.

If you like great tag team wrestling, go out of your way to purchase this event. There wasn’t a bad tag match on the show and new duos like Generico & Mack and Callihan & Strong worked together really well after being paired together for this tournament. The local teams also did well and Cage-Taylor & Taylor are a blast to watch. Despite their early exit from the tournament, they made an impression in the opening round. Cage-Taylor is a beast in the ring and he seems to grow in popularity with every show.

The Steen-Callihan match with Steen putting his PWG Championship on the line in an open challenge was really good as well. I’d like to see both men go at it again, as it seems like their capable of putting together an even better match than they did on this show. That being said, for what it was it was awfully good, but Steen wrestling this style of match is eventually going to burn people out.

The finale of DDT4 was a bit of a letdown in that it appeared the four participants were tired during the early stages of the match. Generico appeared to hurt himself doing his signature arm drag spot and never quite seemed to recover as the match went on. That being said the SSB, Mack, and Generico deserve a lot of credit for digging deep and pulling off a great second half of the match. Perhaps the teams involved in next year’s DDT4 should consider toning it down a bit given the length and rapid-pace of all of the matches in the tournament this year.

I give this show a huge thumbs up. It’s well-worth checking out and the entire show goes by like a blur. PWG is a lot of fun to watch. The only thing I would have changed is to edit out Matt Jackson’s homophobic slur from the show-closing angle and then Steen repeating it when he replied to him. PWG crowds are among the best in wrestling and you can’t go wrong buying this show if you like great tag team action in front of a red hot crowd.
