Last night, ROH debuted in Providence, R.I. and ran what by all accounts was a successful “Boling Point” iPPV. The venue was legitimately sold out and some people were turned away that tried to buy tickets late, but Kevin Steen’s actions at the end of the night overshadowed whatever good came out of the iPPV.

After beating Eddie Kingston, Steen was on the outside of the ring right in front of the section I was sitting in. I looked down momentarily and a fan in a black t-shirt fell right in front me. He was out cold and it was not a part of a storyline. I looked up and Steen was in the midst of turning around and hitting another fan full-force right in the face.

It was a jolting situation to say the least and the people around me were stunned. The second person that got hit began crying and moaning on the floor. He rolled over and I saw he was bleeding from the mouth. Jimmy Jacobs ran over and mocked the fan that was knocked out. Several ROH officials came over and pushed Steen away from the scene.

The look on ROH official Paul Turner’s face told the story, as he waived over the EMT’s to help the two men who were down on the floor. Nigel McGuinness came over to the ring barrier and surveyed the scene telling fans they shouldn’t put their hands over the railing to touch the wrestlers. Both men were eventually helped to the back by several ROH officials and medical staff that were present in the building. Both men appeared to be hurt badly and were unable to walk on their own.

I didn’t see what the fans did or said to Steen. Multiple people have told me the first fan shoved Steen after Steen grabbed him and kissed him after the match. Another person told me the second fan that Steen hit spit on him. What I do know is that Steen could have walked away from the situation.

ROH officials still have not commented on the situation as of Sunday afternoon, but going by what I saw and the other accounts of people near me that witnessed the incident, Steen should be suspended for his actions. Steen has a long history of grabbing fans and kissing them. He also gets in fans faces and instigates them. If one of the fans in front of me had taken a swing at Steen, then I could understand Steen's actions even if the better thing would have been to simply walk away, but Steen showed an appalling lack of self-control last night.

It would also be another thing if one of the fans jumped the barrier and went after Steen, who would have been acting in self-defense, but this was a situation that clearly called for Steen to do the responsible thing and walk away. No matter what the fans said to Steen, nothing warrants his actions.

After the incident, Steen tweeted, "I'm not sorry," presumably related to his actions at the ROH show. This is a situation that calls for ROH officials to send a message to Steen that his actions won’t be tolerated.
