A.J. Styles and Samoa Joe, two longtime TNA centerpiece wrestlers, lashed out in frustration in two very different ways in the past week or so.
A.J. did it in an interview, Samoa Joe blew his top at last week's TV tapings. It's possible Joe blew up only because of the time limit countdown being announced during his match against Jeff Hardy. It's also possible that he was already brimming with frustration over his misuse and start-stop push, all while watching himself get lapped by former fellow ROHers in WWE such as C.M. Punk and, to a degree, Evan Bourne.
Once the no. 1 draft pick as voted by PWTorch readers, Joe now finds himself lost in the mix in TNA with a lot of people with influence not sold on him as a perennial main eventer.
A.J. sees TNA as his company more than any other wrestler's. He's been around from the start, held more titles, been on more shows, shined in more main events, and seen more wrestlers and members of management come and go. So when he sees an RVD step into the promotion and take the no. 1 top babyface slot, he's going to watch with scrutiny.
RVD, to Styles's eyes, probably seems to care only a small fraction as much a Styles does where TNA ends up. I don't agree, though, with Styles's criticism of TNA going with RVD as the top act. I think it was a gamble worth taking. Plus, it's not as if Styles was a great draw as the champion. When the ratings aren't there, who can blame management for trying something different, especially an (expensive) asset like RVD. It's hardly his fault, though. I do agree with Styles that he should have been featured as a top babyface at the start of this year, not a heel.
Joe and Styles are now watching an ECW angle take over their program and, as of yet, they aren't tied into it in any way....
