Dixie Carter has promised a big announcement tonight. She says TNA's "strives to deliver what our fans, and the next step in the evolution of the TNA brand will do just that."

So can moving from Mondays back to Thursdays being deemed "doing what fans want"? Perhaps, since replay ratings are near or better than the Monday airings lately. However, can it be fairly characterized as "the next step in the evolution of the TNA brand"? No. If anything, it'd be a step backward.

TNA shouldn't move away from Mondays, at least not yet. Last week they went head-to-head with the annual draft including both of their hours competing with Raw. They also didn't do a great job building up last week's Impact on the previous show, hyping only Abyss facing Ric Flair. Abyss is turning out to be a potential dud of a main eventer if ratings and TNA's online polling is any indication.

TNA should stay the course with what appears to be a new booking approach the last two weeks and get out of WrestleMania season and out of the shadow of the draft and build on what has been right the last two weeks of Impact.

TNA, though, could be announcing that Impact will move back to Thursdays, but TNA will expand with a new Monday show that's just one-hour focused exclusively on the Knockouts and X Division. No heavyweights.

Then TNA could test the drawing power of their top rated talent, and next time around if ratings are strong with the Knockouts and X Division talent, shift the payroll around in a more equitable manner. (Good for Awesome Kong and Tara, by the way, speaking out against what a reasonable person could label a sexist discriminatory payroll.)

My hope would be that TNA is changing its name. They could change their name to "Lipton Cup-o-Soup" (LCS) for all I care. Anything is better than TNA and Total Nonstop Action (which makes zero sense, by the way). Impact Wrestling Federation seems like an ideal change. It keeps the Impact brand name that is as much identified with TNA as anything, plus brings back the word Federation, lost since the WWF "Got the F Out."

The announcement tonight could be more ordinary, such as just the latest details on the Top 10 Contenders List. Or perhaps it's a change in how they approach PPVs, moving them to once every-other month or quarterly. Perhaps it's monthly live Spike TV prime time weekend specials. Maybe they're giving Saturday night PPVs a chance, capturing an audience that would rather go to bars or friend's houses to watch PPVs on a Saturday (drinking) night instead of Sunday nights. Perhaps it's going back to the six-sided ring! (I'm kidding there, although I would be in favor of a three-sided ring to shake things up. TNA could then be changed to "Triangle Node Acrobatics," which would make as much sense in the English language as "Total Nonstop Action" does.)

I'll be covering Impact live tonight, so check my report for the breaking news and analysis of that news.
