ROH TV HITS
Kevin Steen vs. Jerry Lynn: I stand by what I said about Lynn needing to get out, but this was a solid match. I don't understand why Steen needed outside interference to beat Lynn at this point in his career, but it didn't tarnish the match overall.
Jim Cornette/Roderick Strong/Tyler Black backstage: This was a well put together segment that featured all three of the main players in it positively. I like the idea of a No DQ match for Glory by Honor IX, but I'm also hoping that Black does not lose the ROH Title because of a major attack from the House of Truth. Don't get me wrong, I think Strong winning the belt could be a good thing, but I hope the way he wins it won't tarnish his moment.
The Embassy vs. Dark City Fight Club & Grizzly Redwood & Rasche Brown: Well, The Embassy gets off the schnide this week, but it was more about the overall quality of the show than anything. The match itself wasn't bad but it also didn't set the world on fire. The brawling in the match was the high point and there was some good action throughout. This doesn't mean that this feud has turned a corner or sparked much of my interest, but it was better for one night.
ROH TV MISSES
The Briscoe Brothers vs. Bobby Shields & Alex Anthony: As good as the Briscoes are, this match didn't do much for me. The match was relatively short but wasn't very "competitive" - a gloried squash match, if you will. I know the Briscoes-Kings of Wrestling feud has cooled off (even though it was winding down, more or less anyway) since they announced Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas debuting on September 11, but I think the Briscoes could be put into something better for the time being.
Overall Show: Despite the fact that there were more "hits" than "misses," this felt like a flat show and was pretty subpar. Nothing really excited me and the in-ring action wasn't up to its usual standards. Not a terrible show by any means, but it certainly wasn't good.

ROH TV HITS
Tyler Black promo to kick off the show: This might've been the best promo from Black that I've seen. Does his delivery still need some work? Absolutely, but this was good stuff. I liked that he addressed a "bidding war" and how tough his decision was. I also really liked the tease that Black would show up on Raw with the ROH Title. Now, we all know that would never happen, but it's still fun to suspend disbelief here and envision Black bringing the title with him.
House of Truth vs. Mike Bennett & Jay Freddie & Andy Ridge: This was a glorified squash match but it was good to keep Roderick Strong looking strong (no pun intended) here. The post-match promo was also nothing to write home about, but did help put over the tension between Strong and Jim Cornette and was good hype for Glory by Honor IX.
Kevin Steen/Steve Corino and Colt Cabana/El Generico promos: Both promos were very good and helped put over this feud and their match going into September 11. Cabana is great as a comedic wrestler, but he also cuts a damn good serious promo as well. This match should be brutal (in a good way) and it should be fun to watch.
Kings of Wrestling vs. Cabana & El Generico: This was a darn good TV match where the interference that caused the finish made sense. I'd like to see Generico and Cabana get into a feud for the tag titles if they don't go off on their own after their feud with Steen & Corino. If this match is any indication, we could get a really good series of matches between these two teams.
Jim Cornette adds Terry Funk as the special enforcer: This was a good promo by Cornette, especially how he dragged out the anticipation of who he was talking about as the special enforcer for the ROH Title match. Sure, Funk is well beyond his best years, but having him added at the last second does give some added interest to the title match at Glory by Honor.
Tyler Black vs. Steve Corino: Nothing special about this one, but it was solid all around. Corino is still really good for his age and having him in these type of matches doesn't hurt anything. I thought the post-match brawls were well done for the PPV lead-in show (as there is no ROH on HDNet next Monday due to Labor Day).
Overall Show: I thought this show was leaps and bounds ahead of last week's show. I'd like to have seen a few more matches advertised for Glory by Honor, but no major complaints here. I thought the three major matches were well-hyped and should help to sell the PPV. Going into a PPV, the last show should focus on the main event and the best supporting matches; that's exactly what this show did.
ROH TV MISSES
Eddie Edwards 10-Minute Hunt Match vs. Mike Sydal: I like Eddie Edwards. I like the 10-Minute Hunt concept. However, not this week. I think Sydal has a good future ahead of him and squashing him in less than a minute was hard to swallow. I appreciate ROH keeping the TV Title in the forefront before a PPV, but if this was how it was going to be done, I could've done without it. As I said, over 90 percent of the time this segment will be a "hit," but not this time.
