ROH TV HITS

Kevin Steen & Steve Corino interview: This wasn't as great as their outdoor promo from weeks ago, but it did what it was supposed to do and that's recap the feud thus far and officially introduce their upcoming chain match on PPV to the TV audience. Steen looks to be a future World champion with ROH and it's promos like this that will help get him there, as if his in-ring work wasn't enough!

El Generico vs. Erick Stevens: This match was okay for what it was. I don't mind the run-in here, probably because it wasn't by The Embassy for what would have been, roughly, the fifth week in a row. It helped to further the angle and sell the match for the Glory by Honor PPV. The in-ring action was okay, but nothing to get too excited about.

Davey Richards-Truth Martini backstage interaction: First, I liked how Richards put over his last match with Tyler Black, while also stating his desire to be champion. Richards always comes across as "real" in his promos and it makes him so likeable, whether he is a heel or a face. His confrontation with Truth Martini was really interesting. Martini has the persona that you love to hate and I think most people would like to see someone like Richards actually try to shove his book down his throat. That's the definition of a good heel manager.

Roderick Strong vs. Davey Richards: This match wasn't what I'd hoped it would be, but it was still solid and deserves to fall into the "hit" column. It had a nice slow burn to it, but never really kicked into gear. Richards is still one of the best ring technicians in the world and he shows that consistently. Had this taping not taken place before Tyler Black signed with WWE, I wonder if Richards might have been booked to win this match. As I stated last week, it seems as though Black will be dropping the title soon, but I don't know if Strong is the man that I'd have him dropping it to on his way out. I could be wrong, but I guess only time will tell.

ROH TV MISSES

Jerry Lynn vs. Rhett Titus: This one never really got going and even the usual fun antics of Austin Aries at ringside couldn't save it. I know this may not be a popular statement, but I've never really been a huge fan of Lynn's work. Likely due to mounting injuries, he's starting to become hard to watch in the ring, as well. It's funny I say that since he was recently slotted for the main event of the TNA Hardcore Justice PPV. Maybe it's just me, but I think he's definitely nearing the end of his career, or at least should be with the injuries. The Delirious-Aries feud was kept alive with the ending of the match, though, even if it wasn't one of this feuds finer chapters.

House of Truth vs. Mike Sydal & Aiden Chambers: A squash match that really felt like it didn't belong on a ROH show. It was nice to see Matt Sydal's (a/k/a Evan Bourne) little brother in action considering he was last year's PWI Rookie of the Year. However, other than that, this match was too short and uneventful to receive a "hit." Overall, while the show had more hits than misses, it wasn't too good of a show and bordered a little bit on disappointing, especially considering the main event wasn't as hot as I'd hoped. With that said, I'm still looking forward to the Internet PPV on Sept. 11.
