NXT HITS
Cottonwood Eliminated: Clearly, Eli Cottonwood was the right choice to be eliminated this week. He has shown nothing other than the fact that he is tall. He has very little charisma, no mic skills and no in ring skills either. It was good to see him go. The brawl afterwards, followed by some pretty good mic work (much better than during the opening segment which I will discuss latter), followed by more brawling was a strong ending to the show.
NXT MISSES
Opening Segment: There were a few bright spots among the NXT rookies giving their one minute promos on topics of their choosing, but most of them were just lame. Lucky Cannon was boring. Eli Cottonwood has very little, if any skill on the mic and it showed. Husky Harris was good. I loved his line about the rest of the rookies looking like Tarzan but fighting like Jane. I am really starting to become a fan of his. Kaval has that slow monotone delivery that isn't going to win him any new fans. It was good to hear Michael McGillicutty call out the Miz for the comments he made about him last week, but McGillicutty just seems miss-cast as a babyface when he seems much more of a natural heel. Alex Riley and Percy Watson were both just ok. It wasn't a good showcase for the rookies on the mic.
Morrison - Cottonwood: This could have been an interesting scene between pro and rookie with John Morrison getting Cottonwood to watch some video of his performance last week. However, it was just a really lame way to set up an overly produced video package, the type that we would see any time on any WWE show. I can't imagine any real sport coach showing one of his young athletes that type of video. Besides, the verbal exchange between Morrison and Cottonwood was terrible.
