RADICAN BLOG: Why I don't care about the WWE Draft Apr 11, 2009 - 7:11:26 PM
PWTorch VIP members have first-look access to all of Torch columnist Sean Radican's latest blogs in the newly upgraded VIP Forum. His blogs are published first in the PWTorch VIP Forum, and Radican interacts with other VIP members and Torch staff and contributors in the blog comments area afterward. Some of Radican's blog entries will be exclusive to the VIP Forum.
I don't care about the draft coming up on Raw this Monday. I don't care to analyze what might happen if wrestler "A" goes to show "B" or wrestlers "B" goes to show "C."
Now you might ask something like: "Sean, why the negative attitude? The draft is fun, plus it lasts a three whole hours! That's my entire night and I don't even have to figure out what to do the hour before Raw starts like usual."
Blah.
I've seen every wrestler on every show in every possible combination with every possible commentator calling their matches. I don't care if Jim Ross goes to Raw or Michael Cole goes to Smackdown of even if Josh Matthews goes to ECW and Matt Striker goes to Smackdown.
I may be forgetting a few names, but bare with me.
With the competition annihilated, all of the real surprises are gone. I've already seen Christian wrestle on another show. There aren't really any wrestlers jumping back and forth. The brand split is a total sham. It really just doesn't matter.
In the end, we'll still see everyone we want to see on Raw even if they're exiled to Smackdown. Most of us get SCI-FI, so if we want to watch fun guys like Jack Swagger and Evan Bourne every week, we can still watch them, but even they usually show up on Raw a whole heck of a lot.
It's one thing to promote a draft, but all WWE is doing is promoting a sham until they keep the wrestlers apart and make encounters from wrestlers on different brands special again. Just look what happened with HBK and Taker at WrestleMania.
