RADICAN: Why ECW is the most exciting wrestling program on television today Mar 18, 2009 - 7:05:31 PM
PWTorch VIP members have first-look access to all of Torch columnist Sean Radican's latest blogs in the newly upgraded VIP Forum. His blogs are published first in the PWTorch VIP Forum, and Radican interacts with other VIP members and Torch staff and contributors in the blog comments area afterward. Some of Radican's blog entries will be exclusive to the VIP Forum.
One of my favorite things about watching wrestling is watching a young wrestler on the verge of breaking through to becoming a superstar. ROH had that in Tyler Black last year, but that didn't pan out.
When I watched ECW last night, I saw two wrestlers come across my screen with huge potential in Jack Swagger and Evan Bourne.
Bourne was featured in a competitive showcase match against Jamie Noble. He didn't seem stale or overexposed like most of the WWE roster can at times. He was over with the fans, who seemed genuinely excited to see him make his return to ECW. I think he fits in better in WWE than he did in ROH, which is a shock to me because I would have pegged him for a candidate to be a faceless X-division guy two years ago.
The other guy I like watching has tons of potential and a huge upside. Although he only appeared briefly on ECW last night, Jack Swagger has made an impression on me since his debut on television. The guy is freakishly huge and just captures your eyeballs when he wrestles.
Watching Swagger reminds me of when I first saw Brock Lesnar on television. Sure, he was another huge guy, but he was a huge guy that could go in the ring. He stood out and moved like a gazelle when attacking his opposition. That's what I see when I watch Swagger: a natural athlete that is almost a can't-miss prospect to main event WrestleMania cards for years to come.
Oh yeah, Christian is on ECW putting together very good television matches, despite his crappy push upon debuting. There's also Miz & Morrison too, but what I like is watching the young talent rise to the top. ECW is a fun wrestling program to watch these days and hopefully Swagger and Bourne can move up the latter and shake things up on Raw and Smackdown in the near future.
