A Radican Short: Triple H proved last night on Raw why he must be consistent Mar 3, 2009 - 5:36:52 PM
Triple H delivered an MVP caliber performance on Raw last night during his verbal exchange with Randy Orton to set the stage for their match at WrestleMania next month, but the question lingers as to whether or not he is capable at this stage of his career of reinventing his character in the same manner as Chris Jericho did in 2008.
Triple H is usually a predictable performer. He does what is necessary to stay over, but doesn't often step outside of his comfort zone. As a result of this, his character has gotten very stale in recent years whether or not he's playing the heel or face role.
Last night on Raw, Triple H finally stepped outside that comfort zone and injected some real emotion into his feud with Randy Orton. Perhaps serving as the knight in shining armor for the McMahon family is the perfect role to generate some steam behind Triple H's character in 2009.
I would lay odds that once Triple H is done playing with Orton, he'll go back to what he was before they feuded. Triple H could be a hot character for the WWE, but he's simply been too comfortable in his spot to evolve. If history teaches us anything, it's that any act in wrestling can get old if new layers and tones aren't incorporated into an established act.
Triple H is gearing up for a spotlight match at WrestleMania this year, but the real question is, when he is done doing his light lifting, will he leave the heavy lifting in the hands of others as he did last year when Chris Jericho, Edge, and HBK carried the WWE banner for much of the year. Their shoulders must be getting sore doing all of that lifting while Triple H has stayed in his comfort zone. His performance last night is evidence of why he must come out and evolve as a character in Vince McMahon's "WWE Universe."
