RADICAN'S TAKE
WEEKEND DVD SPOTLIGHT: Quick Shootin' w/ Allison Danger Sep 13, 2008 - 3:26:00 PM
StrongStyleProductions.com (SSP) enters the shoot interview market with their first release "Quick Shootin' With Allison Danger. The tradition RF Video style of interview isn't followed here, as Danger is asked about her opinions on a variety of people in the business.
Danger has encountered a lot of personalities, as she's wrestled all over the world and can be considered a modern day veteran of women's wrestling given her longevity on the independent scene, including a long stint in ROH. Although she's never been under contract to a major wrestling promotion, Danger has been a huge influence given her involvement in the Shimmer promotion with Dave Prazak, which has been a major breeding ground for female talent in WWE and TNA during the last 2 years.
Since SSP is going to be releasing a documentary on Danger in the near future, this release is a companion piece of sorts, as Danger's wrestling career is discussed in-depth in the documentary. That's not to say she doesn't tell some funny stories related to her time in the business on this release, as she tells some very funny stories.
Danger is asked a series of questions in a semi-chronological order about female wrestlers, TNA wrestlers, WWE wrestlers, and various foreign and independent workers as well. Before Danger gets into her thoughts on the various wrestling personalities she's encountered during her time in the business, she discusses whether she would rather wrestle in TNA or WWE if either company offered her a contract. I enjoyed her answer, but given TNA's increasing house show and international schedule, it's a safe bet that the amount of dates each wrestler works for TNA and WWE are becoming more similar, which wasn't the case when this interview was filmed back in January.
Danger comes across well, as she didn't seem to have anything bad to say about anyone in the business, save for a few people who she doesn't mind burying. I thought Danger was spot on when talking about many of the WWE Divas. She referred to the "Stepford Diva look" at one point while talking about Beth Phoenix, who she feels stands out simply because she doesn't look like the typical WWE Diva.
Other highlights of her discussion of the WWE Divas include her discussion of Victoria. I remember when Victoria seemed like one of the better female in-ring workers several years back, but recently she hasn't been on television frequently. Danger mentions that she would like to see Victoria on the independent scene because she would be a good role model to young female wrestlers and would also put on some great matches.
When the topic of conversation turned to Shimmer, Danger talked about Molly Holly attending an event to sign autographs and how she was dismayed at the amount of injuries. One thing that's easy to forget is that although Shimmer puts out a quality product, the style of wrestling they put on is physically taxing, so perhaps it is a good thing that Shimmer runs a low number of events per year.
This shoot is long and towards the end of the second disc, Danger began talking about her time in ROH, which I was most interested in. She told some great stories about working with B.J. Whitmer, Dan Maff, and Christopher Daniels, but it's her words about C.M. Punk that are the highlight of the second disc. Regarding Punk's personality, Danger says he is "The most lovable asshole I've ever known." She also tells her version of a fantastic C.M. Punk story I've heard before about them getting pulled over by some cops on their way back home from the airport.
I give this shoot a solid recommendation. I really enjoyed listening to Danger give her perspective on the business. This isn't a short interview either at nearly 4 hours long, as SSP went in-depth and asked her a ton of questions. If you're a fan of Shimmer or ROH, you'll learn a lot from watching this shoot. There's also some interesting discussion for TNA and WWE fans out there as well.
