KELLER'S TAKE
KELLER'S TNA IMPACT REPORT 5 YRS. AGO: Jeff Hardy main event, Beer Money on opposite sides of tag match, Hall & Nash mentioned Oct 15, 2009 - 5:19:01 PM
ORLANDO, FL: Jeff Hardy defeated Monty Brown to confirm he will be Jeff Jarrett's opponent at the Taboo Tuesday PPV on Nov. 7. The match ended after interference from Abyss and Raven and did nothing to highlight Hardy as a World Title-level looking wrestler.
After Hardy's win, the focus of the show shifted immediately to a shouting match between Vince Russo and Dusty Rhodes, with Dusty proposing they let the fans vote for which of the two should run TNA.
When champ Jarrett cut a promo later, he mocked Hardy for wearing clown make-up and added, "I don't even want to know what he's into when he's not wrestling." At the end of the show, Hardy was shown standing on a ladder, but he didn't say anything.
Hardy's greatest limitation so far has been his lack of a promo ability to sell himself as being of World Title stature. His work in the ring has also been a letdown, as he seems to be going through the motions and relying on his charisma to get by. It hasn't added up to the Victory Road PPV main event feeling like a must-see match at all. The hype so far, with the involvement of Raven and Abyss, makes Jarrett-Hardy feel like part of an ongoing mess, not a potential resolution to a conflict.
The other big story of the show was the mention of Scott Hall and Kevin Nash. When Shane Douglas asked Jarrett if Hulk Hogan and Sting were "outsiders" who came to TNA, "Is Austin an outsider? Who are we talking about?" Jarrett then revealed the outsiders he's been talking about are Hall and Nash. He said Hall is on his side, and Nash is on the other side.
MATCH RESULTS & STAR RATINGS
(1) Jeff Hardy beat Monty Brown at 9:16 to advance to the main event at Victory Road against Jeff Jarrett. At 8:15 Abyss interfered by giving Hardy a Black Hole Slam. Brown then gave Abyss a Pounce. The Pounce doesn't look all that effective against bigger opponents. Raven then nailed Brown with a chair from behind and DDT'd him. Hardy then gave Brown his Twist of Fate for the win. (*)
(2) Petey Williams (w/Scott D'Amore) beat Jason Pocarro at 1:18. Williams won with a Styles Clash, stealing the finisher of his Victory Road opponent. A.J. Styles attacked Williams after the match, then dove onto Williams and D'Amore at ringside. (1/4*)
(3) 3 Live Kru (Ron Killings & B.G. James & Konan) defeated Eric Stevens & John Thadeio & Nate "Spyder" Webb at 0:54. (1/4*)
(4) Bobby Roode & Eric Young defeated James Storm & Christopher Daniels at 10:09 to capture the NWA Tag Team Titles. (*1/4)
OTHER NOTES
On Jeff Hammonds's "Six Points of Impact," he talked about key elements of Victory Road... Raven attacked Brian Gamble before his match against Abyss and said he should be getting the NWA Title shot and talked about sticking forks in Jarrett's brain. That led to a brawl with Abyss and Brown... A vignette aired of Roddy Piper telling stories about the history of the Pit...
