CALDWELL'S POLL ANALYSIS: Torch readers looking forward to Ladders, Hogs, and not the Raw brand at Extreme Rules PPV tonight Jun 7, 2009 - 6:30:31 PM
TORCH EXTREME RULES PPV POLL ANALYSIS: Which match are you most looking forward to at the Extreme Rules PPV? The majority of Torch readers will be ordering tonight's PPV or following our LIVE COVERAGE of tonight's PPV to see the ladder match between World Hvt. champion Edge and Jeffrey Hardy.
The voting was pretty clear with Edge-Hardy receiving 53 percent of the vote. Second-place was Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho with 14 percent.
It's no surprise Torch readers want to watch or find out about the ladder match. Jeff Hardy said this weekend he's working on some innovative things. Knowing Hardy, it will be worth watching him pull off stunts, especially if Edge and Hardy are given the main event slot once again after they were in the main event at Judgment Day three weeks ago.
Edge and Hardy's history in ladder matches has been well-documented on WWE TV to hype tonight's PPV. Their famous tag team TLC match at WrestleMania 17 was at the peak of the Attitude era and people still talk about Hardy's ladder match against The Undertaker several years ago before Hardy left WWE the first time.
The last big-time ladder match in WWE was Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho nine months ago. They delivered a memorable, epic ladder match in the midst of their 2009 Feud of the Year. Edge and Hardy have a chance to do that again, but there will certainly be some cringe-inducing moments and potential for injury.
Second place among Torch readers is Rey vs. Jericho. They clearly had the best match at the J-Day PPV three weeks ago and Torch readers are probably expecting a repeat performance. The Smackdown brand is just clicking right now, so it's no surprise to see their top two feuds at the top of the list among Torch readers.
Third place is Christian vs. Swagger vs. Dreamer with 12 percent. A close third behind Rey-Jericho, most likely due to it possibly being Tommy Dreamer's final WWE match. I think Torch readers will be interested in reading about this one, more than ordering the PPV simply to watch this match. It has potential to be a show-stealer in the first hour of the show, though.
And then there's the Raw brand. Sad day. Whereas Smackdown is hot, Raw is not. Torch readers (most likely out of sarcastic irony to make a point about the lack of "zip" to the Raw brand right now), had the Santino(a) vs. Vickie slop fest as the top Raw brand match they're looking forward to earlier today, but then Orton-Batista grabbed some late votes to pass Santina-Vickie.
Raw has three matches on tonight's PPV card. It's obvious they need Shawn Michaels back on the show or they need to insert Miz into a PPV match one of these months. Miz without a PPV match on two straight PPVs is a disservice to the audience based on his strong heel performances.
Here's your Raw brand break down from Torch readers: Orton-Batista (7 percent), Hog Pen (6 percent), Cena-Show submissions (2 percent). More Torch readers are looking forward to the C.M. Punk vs. Umaga strap match that was virtually given away on free TV two nights ago than the Cena vs. Show match.
I already detailed why earlier this week, as Torch readers overwhelming said in a Torch poll two weeks ago that they wanted to see Cena vs. Miz or Cena & a partner vs. Show & Miz rather than another Cena vs. Show match. Instead, WWE is giving the audience a re-match of something our sample of the audience said they don't want to watch.
Also, the sheer fact that Raw's WWE Title match main event barely surpassed the ironically-selected Hog Pen match indicates the flagship show needs some work after tonight's PPV.
Be sure to check back for our live coverage of tonight's show starting at 8:00 p.m. EST with every angle of the PPV covered.
