CALDWELL'S POLL ANALYSIS 5/26: Torch readers vote on MVP of Raw - Miz dominates again; did "Kroenke" or McMahon receive more votes? May 26, 2009 - 6:43:08 PM
TORCH WWE RAW MVP POLL ANALYSIS: Who was the MVP of the 5/25 edition of WWE Raw? After last night's Lakers-Nuggets debacle a/k/a the Raw Regurgitation, we asked Torch readers to pick the MVP of the show. Not surprisingly, The Miz picked up another MVP victory.
Miz has been on a roll since officially joining the Raw brand in the post-Draft 2009 era. Miz also scored MVP victories on May 4 and May 11. He came in second-place last week behind Ric Flair, but only by two percent.
With Torch readers, Miz has clearly been the MVP of Raw in the first five weeks of the post-Draft season. I had him as the High Point of last night's show in my Raw summary after he saved the opening segment. He's just on his game right now, carries himself like a star, and hasn't taken a beating for being a smarmy heel yet.
The name of the game for any credible heel is being able to avoid that loss or beat-down that kills credibility. Miz has avoided the Randy Orton and The Brian Kendrick treatment thus far and he's stood out to Torch readers with his weekly performances.
Second place went to Mr. Kennedy, who returned to Raw on last night's show. I have to disagree with this vote, as I was not feeling Kennedy's return. The goatee needs to go. The awkward exchange with Orton was not good, in my estimation. And, he was injured during the post-game handshakes and awkward sideline interviews after the "Lakers" beat the "Nuggets" in the main event.
I'm also curious about MVP picking up third place with 9 percent of the vote. Perhaps his presence on commentary during the #1 contender match and actually scoring the victory in the ten-man tag main event were worthy of consideration, but I didn't think he had a stand-out performance on the show.
Meanwhile, the fake E. Stan Kroenke tied MVP with 9 percent of the vote to take a spot in the Top Five. But, that has to be cheating when the fake Kroenke was played by NWA announcer Troy Stone. Stone has some experience, which made this farce not-quite-a-farce since it wasn't "so bad that it was great." Instead, the whole opening segment was just plain bad due to Fake Kroenke's performance.
But, if you're looking for awkward, here's your dose of what Troy Stone really looks like holding a mic for a wrestling promo without a fake 'stache.
Rounding out the Top Five, Kofi Kingston picked up seven percent of the vote for MVP. I like that pick. WWE has suddenly decided to re-push Kofi, who was non-existent for a while on Raw. Now, he has a U.S. Title shot against MVP next week after victories over William Regal on Superstars and Matt Hardy and Regal on Raw last night.
And, if you're wondering how Vince McMahon fared in the MVP poll, McMahon picked up 5 percent of the vote for his skit in the opening segment. He was bested by the Top Five and Ric Flair and Maryse. Yes, Kroenke & Maryse > McMahon on Raw.
