CALDWELL'S TAKE
CALDWELL'S POLL ANALYSIS 5/6: MVP of WWE Raw - The Miz and Randy Orton top the list followed by two SuperSurprises May 6, 2009 - 4:15:26 PM
TORCH RAW POLL 5/4: Who was the MVP of the 5/4 WWE Raw episode? After Monday night's episode of Raw TV, we asked Torch readers to pick the MVP of the show. U.S. champion MVP's one-week run as the top vote-getter was quickly erased, as he picked up six percent of the voting this week after winning the April 27 voting.
Instead, The Miz scored a healthy 32 percent of Torch reader votes for the MVP of the show. Miz didn't wrestle. He wasn't even involved in the conclusion of his own segment. He simply delivered a passionate promo that cut right to the heart of what CenaHaters believe.
Miz said (a) Cena is a product of the WWE machine, (b) he's all hype, (c) he appeals to the kiddos, and (d) the cougar moms in the crowd love him. (WWE was apparently appealing to that cougar mom crowd with "The View" cross-over.)
Miz didn't just deliver the promo, though. He was emphatic and passionate in his promo. His skills on the microphone are solid and he's done well for himself after branching away from John Morrison.
After the Miz & Morrison tag team split up, it seemed like Morrison would be the Top Star from the duo. Morrison had a great TV match against Evan Bourne the night after the WWE Draft to propel him as a singles wrestler, but Miz has answered right back with outstanding performances his first two official weeks on the Raw brand.
Second place in the MVP poll went to Randy Orton, who secured 20 percent of the voting. Not a bad showing after having to sell for non-wrestler Shane McMahon throughout the Raw broadcast.
Orton is the lead character on the show, though, and he stands out among the other wrestlers while the previous Raw anchors of John Cena, Shawn Michaels, Triple H, and Chris Jericho are not being featured. Cena is in a limited supporting role, Jericho is on Smackdown, and the other two are just not part of the Raw broadcast right now.
It's Orton's show for the time being. His Judgment Day opponent, Batista didn't receive much love from Torch readers despite being so popular with casual fans. Mickie James received more votes than Batista, who isn't in a position to be a true threat to Orton's WWE Title at Judgment Day because the focus has been Shane, Shane, Shane.
Speaking of Shane, he grabbed third place along with Festus of all people in the MVP voting. They tied for third place with 8 percent of the voting. Apparently Festus doing something completely random and nonsensical was worth applauding. On a show that I didn't feel was good to begin with, Festus might as well receive some MVP votes for providing comedy relief on the show.
