Ask the Specialists Roundtable #47

- Question from Jai Dennis in Australia: If Sting signs a talent deal with WWE, who is left to have one last run who has never been in WWE or has not been in WWE for some time

- "Hits & Misses" Jon Mezzera responds: In terms of someone who has never been in WWE, the first name that pops to mind is Samoa Joe. A.J. Styles would be another possibility.

- "Showstopper" Shawn Valentino responds: Thanks for your question, Jai. If Sting signs with the WWE, then he would become one of the last big stars that have never worked with the company to show up on television. I cannot think of too many major names left to have one last run. Goldberg comes to mind, but he already was with WWE for a year. Some TNA stars include A.J. Styles, Samoa Joe, and James Storm, but I am not sure how much recognition those stars have amongst mainstream fans. A Steve Austin return has been discussed for years, and that is a possibility. Besides that, I cannot think of too many people that WWE can bring back to make an impact.

- "Common Fan" Jimmy Eaton (@TheCommonFan) responds: Greetings, Jai. That's a really good question. I would have to go with Goldberg off the top of my head. He didn't have a great finish to his first WWE stint and could probably use one more above average match to get the bad taste of Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar out of his mouth. Or at least, for the fans to be able to have a better lasting memory than that match.

Another choice for me would be Kurt Angle. If healthy, he could have one last great match in him with numerous people to choose from on today's roster. Either way, with how the near-impossible as happened with people coming to WWE, it really does show that you can many times expect the unexpected.

- "Mr. TV" Justin James (@Justin_M_James) responds: Jai, based on how often it gets brought up in the “Ask the Torch” columns, I’d say Kurt Angle, followed (quite distantly) by A.J. Styles, Bully Ray, James Storm, and Robert Roode. I think that Styles, Storm, and Roode have enough years still left in their careers that it wouldn’t be “one last run” for them, but a “a second run.” For Angle and probably Bully Ray, I think it would definitely be their last run.

- "Falls Count Anywhere" Tony Donofrio (@TonyDonofrio) responds: After Sting, the name that screams out to me is Kurt Angle. If you listened to last week's Jim Ross podcast, it seemed apparent to me that Angle does want to finish his career in WWE. With that said, Angle would have to pass a battery of tests to get there. I’m a big Angle fan (being from Pittsburgh), but his checkered past puts doubts in my head sometimes on his sincerity. That doesn’t mean that I hope he hasn’t gotten his life together. I’d love to see him back in WWE and he seems to be the next logical guy to follow Sting.

Behind Angle, the list is very thin. Names that I’d like to see get another run in WWE but doubt we’ll see happen (or at least anytime in the near future) are Matt Hardy and MVP. There are two names that have never been in WWE that I’d love to see get a run but have SERIOUS doubts that they’ll ever end up there. The most glaring is A.J. Styles. The idea that the most he ever got with WWE was a one-off match on Velocity or Metal is pretty mind-blowing. The second name is Austin Aries. Some will remember that Aries was turned down by WWE for its latest incarnation of Tough Enough a few years back, leading to Aries considering retirement and ending with him having a very good run in TNA to this point. As stated, other than Angle, I wouldn’t expect anyone else on my list having a legitimate chance to get into or back into WWE after the (hopefully) eventual arrival of Sting.

- "Mr. PPV" Nathan Kyght responds: Thanks for the question, Jai. I'll focus on who Sting should have a WWE run with - The Undertaker. A Sting vs. Undertaker match may not be the best in-ring at this stage of both men's respective careers, but the sheer spectacle of it would be great. Based on both Triple H and Vince McMahon recently hinting that Sting will make his in-ring WWE debut at some point, one way or another, my guess is that you'll see Sting at least once more. Side note - imagine his WrestleMania entrance being a live stage performance from the face-painted orchestra in the "2K15" video game teaser? That seems so good that it almost has to happen.
