Ask the Specialists Roundtable #44

- Question from PWTorch reader Sach C.: I believe Brock Lesnar should be the most hated monster-heel in WWE after beating The Undertaker at WrestleMania, but, instead, he'll be the most popular guy in the room if he fights John Cena. Is it a waste of Brock Lesnar's Streak-heat to put him up against Cena? Can Paul Heyman possibly do anything that would get the crowd to boo Lesnar?

- "Instant Reaction" Ben Tucker (@BTuckerTorch) responds: I actually think that it's a great idea to pair Lesnar with Cena. Not only is he the franchise of the company, he's also the only man to beat Lesnar since his return in 2012 and not lose in a re-match. Lesnar needs to beat Cena to regain some sort of the magic that was lost at Extreme Rules 2012 when the "Next Big Thing" lost in two moves. The key is to re-build Lesnar's mystique. Trust me, I don't think Brock beating hardcore fans's least favorite wrestler will really make anyone forget that he is the one who ended The Undertaker's Streak.

- "Mr. PPV" Nathan Kyght responds: I think that the males in the crowd will definitely boo Cena against Lesnar, but WWE expects that and will most likely have Lesnar do some dastardly deeds against crowd favorites. Combine that with Paul Heyman heavily bragging about ending the Undertaker's streak, and I think it's the next chance they have of at least splitting the crowd support. My guess is that Lesnar wins the WWE Title at Summerslam (presuming Cena is still the champion) and then Lesnar retains through WrestleMania next year to defend against Roman Reigns. Just a guess, though.

- "Common Fan" Jimmy Eaton (@TheCommonFan) responds: That's actually a great point. Lesnar should be the most hated man in wrestling, but it will definitely be in an uphill battle. I think they will utilize Paul Heyman a ton in order to get heat. I trust Heyman to at least get him boos in most cities and especially at Summerslam. Hopefully they'll have more of a story and build-up than they did with Taker, but it depends on how many dates he works. Regardless it will be interesting to see the reaction he gets when he returns. My money is on a mixed reaction. Thanks for the question!

- "Mr. Europe" Brian Leahy (@CobyHectic) responds: Given the choice between John Cena and the guy who for all intents and purposes put an end to The Undertaker's WWE career, I think the crowd might side with Cena. All Heyman has to do is remind the people of that, constantly. I don't think it's a waste of Lesnar at all: with Bryan missing from the scene at the moment, WWE really does not have a face they can put as champion to face Lesnar in the Summerslam slot (and no, Roman Reigns is not the man for that spot right now). Who knows, maybe Bryan can even give Cena some sort of a face rub to help him along - as strange as that sounds - and to set up for his own match with Lesnar down the line.
