December 29 WWE Raw TV Rating

- The final Raw of 2014 drew a 2.50 rating, declining from the previous year-low 2.57 rating for "Ho-Ho-Hogan" on December 22.

It's arguable whether this would be considered a "holiday week" edition of Raw falling in-between Christmas and New Year's. However, it's one of the lowest non-holiday TV ratings of the past 15 years.

The closest in recent years was a 2.60 rating in September 2008 during the Mike Adamle Era and against a Dallas Cowboys Monday Night Football game.

- Raw averaged 3.458 million viewers, according to TVBytheNumbers.com, down five percent from last week's audience.

This was a year-low audience, drawing fewer viewers than the episode two weeks ago that drew 3.521 million viewers.

Raw was hurt by only drawing 3.174 million first hour viewers. It was the second-fewest first hour viewers of the Three-Hour Raw Era spanning 126 episodes. Only the Christmas Eve 2012 episode drew fewer first hour viewers.

Raw's audience grew over the remainder of the show, but the poor start dragged down the show's overall average.

Hourly Break Down: 3.174 million first hour viewers, 3.476 million second hour viewers, and 3.726 million third hour viewers. The third hour was up 350,000 viewers (11 percent) from last week's third hour.

- It was the first Raw not opposed by NFL Monday Night Football since August, but Raw still ranked #3 behind college football's Texas Bowl in the MNF prime timeslot on ESPN, as well as the Russell Athletic Bowl in the mid-Monday bowl timeslot.

- The year-low audience did not match up with social media buzz. Raw jumped to a two-month high in their Nielsen Twitter TV rating as a result of Daniel Bryan's cryptic tweet and WWE packing as many developments as possible into a three-hour show. But, the buzz did not translate to TV viewership, at least not until the final hour.

Whether or not WWE is able to build on the final hour, especially with no football competition next Monday for the first show of 2015, remains to be seen.

Caldwell's Analysis: Last week's casual, house show-style Raw did not hook viewers for this week's show, so the slow start was expected. Combine that with six weeks of poor follow-up to Survivor Series and Raw was not positioned to draw well to close the year. The key to all of this is whether the third hour viewership translates to next week.
