WWE CEO Vince McMahon responded to an inquiry from Nasdaq.com about the negative response from investors and the financial community to WWE's new TV contract with NBC Universal and latest WWE Network figures.

"There should be no confusion on Wall Street as it is extraordinary to have reached more than 660,000 WWE Network subscribers only 42 days after launch, putting us on track to reach 1 million subscribers by the end of the year," McMahon said Friday before addressing the TV contract. "We feel good about nearly doubling the value of our four largest TV deals around the world."

At issue is McMahon vowing to "double or triple" the value of the TV contract in statements leading up to Thursday's announcement. Also at issue is what "nearly doubling" the value of the contract entails.

Researchers estimate WWE received a 50 percent bump from the NBCU TV contract, which Nasdaq noted is "generous, but well short of what Wall Street had come to expect."

Nasdaq's story included a behind-the-scenes look at WWE's TV operation at a typical Raw or Smackdown taping. And, questions about whether McMahon is fit to run both the business and creative side of the company.

Reporter Merissa Marr wrote: "The episode highlighted a shortcoming in Mr. McMahon's leadership style: While an unbeatable promoter and a creative genius, Mr. McMahon has at times struggled to master corporate negotiations and dealings with Wall Street."

McMahon also commented for the story that the Network is "one of the most important things I've ever done." He added that when it's time for him to step away from WWE, he believes it should be more than one person guiding the future of the company.

"It started out as a one-man band but if this is really going to take off and be everything I think it should be, it can't be one man's vision, " McMahon said in a recent interview. "If I get hit by a bus, there will be a couple of hiccups along the way but my position would be split into different directions. We have a lot of creative people and a lot of executives of a high caliber."
