Perhaps aided by "too much coffee this morning," retired former WWE announcer Jim Ross spoke out on pet peeves in pro wrestling, last night's TNA PPV, and other topics in a new blog posted Monday at jrsbarbq.com.
- Ross questioned TNA switching several titles at Bound for Glory, asking "which one is supposed to stand out to the average fan?" Ross added, "Sounds like TNA hit the 'reset' button on the whole shooting match. No dog in the hunt except for my many friends who work there and I'm pulling for them and their families."
- Speaking about pro wrestling companies, in general, Ross said he thinks promotions need to listen more to their audience.
"If more promotions listened more intently to their paying customers like the UFC apparently does, companies selling tickets to their events would experience more success," Ross wrote. "When organizations stop listening to their consumers, trouble and a general malaise is on the way. Live audiences tell decision-makers what they like or do not like every night that there is an event. Not listening to them or over-thinking those reactions is arrogant and blatantly ignorant."
- Regarding Shawn Michaels's role tonight on Raw, Ross said HBK "should be better utilized than last week," where Michaels had a promo exchange with Randy Orton at the top of the show. Ross said that he believes an anticipated Michaels-Triple H promo exchange would "be good TV" and help sell the Hell in a Cell PPV on Sunday.
Overall, Ross said he believes WWE meeds to focus on their top-line PPV feuds. "Trying too hard to create interest at this late date in undercard bouts that aren't going to sell PPVs isn't advisable from my perspective," Ross wrote.
- Ross said comedy acts in wrestling are one of his pet peeves right now. "Comedy acts screams 'prelims' and TV show 'filler,'" Ross wrote. "Organic comedy is a completely different animal but attempting to write comedy and then have an untrained actor/comedian pull it off without the audience rolling their eyes is challenging....at best."
