WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart provided insight into his first WWE show in Montreal since the Montreal Screwjob Monday on Raw in an interview with Rob McNichol of the U.K. Sun. Hart revealed the following items.

-- WWE originally only wanted to bring in Hart for the non-televised Pat Patterson Appreciation Night portion of the Raw taping, which points to why WWE did not advertise Hart in-advance for the actual Raw show. Hart says he convinced WWE that it was important for him to appear on-camera to address the Screwjob 15 years ago.

“It was fitting, going full circle. I think it was important to do. I think it was more important than WWE or anyone realized," Hart said. “I think when they called me it was more to be there for Pat Patterson Appreciation Night than anything else - I love Pat and I’m a big fan of his - but it had more significance to me than that. The Montreal Screwjob was a famous, historical meltdown that in a lot of ways was my finest hour."

Hart said he was proud of his actions, both for standing up for himself and punching Vince McMahon backstage. “That reaction from the fans (Monday night) told me that I did do the right thing," Hart said. "These people wouldn’t feel the way they do right now and have that emotion 15 years later if I had done the wrong thing that day.”

-- Once the decision was made for Hart to appear on-camera, Hart said he was originally scripted to "say a couple of words to the crowd." And, if WWE did not want him to say anything to his fanbase, Hart says he "didn't really care to go."

“I don’t think they thought it would get the reaction that it did. I think they thought it wouldn’t be a big deal. As you can see, I had a better feel for how that audience was going to react," Hart said. “But I’m grateful to WWE for it. It was really satisfying.”

-- Hart also described his emotions performing with John Cena and C.M. Punk in the final segment of Raw while news was uncertain about Jerry Lawler, who suffered a heart attack about 50 minutes prior to the final segment.

“It was a very dark moment. It had that eerie Owen Hart, live television feel where you thought, ‘What do you do?’ But in this case I tip my hat to WWE and Michael Cole. They did a great job of handling the whole thing," Hart said. “I thought the professionalism was on all levels."

Hart said what helped himself, Cena, and Punk in the final segment was receiving information just beforehand that Lawler's "heartbeat had been restored and things were looking better. Things weren’t so dim.” Hart added that perhaps WWE going through a similar event with his brother, Owen Hart, made the company more prepared to handle a medical emergency this time.

“We almost lost Jerry. Maybe with WWE having gone through this situation with Owen, they were on top of it this time. They got Jerry back, got him the medical attention they needed and they saved his life," Hart said. “If anything I welcomed the little bit I had with Cena and Punk at the end of the show. It was a welcome distraction from it all."

FYI: Hart is promoting "An Evening with Bret Hart" in the U.K. this winter. More details can be found and the full interview on the One Sided Ring podcast can be heard at TheSun.co.uk - http://bit.ly/SLJPW7 .
