WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross published a new blog on jrsbarbq.com covering WWE subjects, his potential broadcasting future, whether Smackdown should be live each week, Brock Lesnar's next UFC Hvt. Title defense in October, and other topics.

-- Ross's name has been in sports news this week with Oklahoma Sooners broadcaster Bob Barry announcing his plans to retire after the 2010-2011 school year. Ross has said before that his dream broadcasting job would be calling Oklahoma football and basketball.

"Many have jumped the gun on speculation on this matter. Don't think that I wouldn't love to have that personal, dream job which is one that I've embraced for years but the process to replace the man who will always be the voice of OU football has not commenced," Ross said. "This will be a coveted role for any broadcaster who has college football in their DNA."

As for his WWE broadcasting future, of which Ross has said there is none, Ross commented that he doesn't miss the weekly travel after flying to Connecticut for this week's filming of the Legends Roundtable.

"Speaking of travel, I realized, again, that I don't miss that aspect of being a wrestling broadcaster," he said. "Sure, I miss the adrenaline rush of doing live TV and interacting with the fans but getting there and then getting home is a challenging piece of business."

-- Ross commented on a hot topic in the news this week with WWE reportedly considering the idea of unifying their major titles. Ross discussed his view on the matter that there should be one title and one champion.

"I'm a proponent of unifying titles in pro wresting. Too many titles waters down the product in my view," he said. "When decision makers were still wrestling they would often create meaningless titles to appease egocentric performers or to enhance their own egos."

-- Regarding the frequently-discussed topic of whether Smackdown should be live on Friday nights, Ross said his view is that it would have to make sense beyond avoiding "spoilers" and people will watch no matter if it's taped or live if it's a good product.

"Others have asked if WWE would do better if Friday Night Smackdown was always a 'live' show. I don't have a definitive answer but my thoughts are probably not. This assumption is based on the fact that too much credence is put on Internet 'spoiler' information making the viewing decision for the fan," Ross said.

I think that the Internet, although a vital aspect of information flow, still has such a small audience when compared to the entire TV universe that it has minimal affect to the casual, TV viewer. If the programming is compelling and episodically produced, folks will do all they can to either watch it as it airs or via DVR, etc."
