With the U.S. Senate voting in Connecticut exactly two months away today, it's interesting to note the tone of the race developing between former WWE CEO Linda McMahon (Republican party) and favorite-to-win Richard Blumenthal (Democratic party).

With two months to go until the election, Blumenthal has been quiet on discussing the race or his opponent, while news coverage of McMahon suddenly picked up in the last 24 hours. There are a number of articles on McMahon today, with highlights below.

-- The Week, a news magazine, published a report on "The wrestlers haunting Linda McMahon" regarding the recent (and past) early deaths of prominent wrestlers. The article lists a "fact sheet" on Lance Cade, Luna Vachon, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, and the accidental death of Owen Hart.

-- Yahoo News published a report on McMahon and Blumenthal each being tailed by a key issue from their past. The story focuses on the early wrestler deaths for McMahon and Blumenthal's "misleading" comments on his Vietnam War service in the 1970s, which McMahon's campaign assisted in bringing to light.

The story concludes: "Her willingness to spend whatever it takes to win could mean bad news for Blumenthal, especially as Democrats had not planned to spend many party resources on his behalf. One thing that the early skirmishing makes clear, however, is that this race will only get uglier."

-- The Daily Beast published a profile of McMahon, focusing on her campaign narrative of "rags to riches" - Vince and Linda coming out of bankruptcy in the 1970s to operating a publicly-traded, billion-dollar wrestling company.

McMahon's account in the Daily Beast has raised questions on whether there are two separate "bankruptcy stories" with the McMahons based on the timeline given by McMahon to the Daily Beast. Wrestling author Irv Muchnick has a break down of the timeline issue here and with follow-up here on wrestlingbabylon.wordpress.com.

Regarding McMahon's opponent in the Senate race, McMahon commented in the article on Blumenthal and his Vietnam war record: “I don’t think he’s a bad guy at all. I would hope that the campaign would focus on the issues. I think it was necessary to draw some contrasts with Dick Blumenthal."

-- Following up on "the issues," a report by the Connecticut Mirror recapped McMahon's speech at a "Tea Party" gathering on Tuesday night in Connecticut. The following are five specific notes from the Mirror's report on political issues McMahon mentioned during the campaign stop.

"McMahon offered only vague objections to 'big government.' She listed no specifics about what she would cut, nor does she see the election as about her."

"Unlike (defeated Republican candidate Peter) Schiff, who questioned the propriety of the federal government offering social welfare programs like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security, McMahon shuns a discussion of the entitlements that consume 40 percent of the federal budget, saying they are not a topic for campaigns."

"At the prodding an audience member, McMahon talked about her views on foreign policy. She offered little, other than a call for continued vigilance."

"She was applauded for saying no options should be taken off the table in dealing with Iran. McMahon was similarly vague on Iraq and Afghanistan. She neither endorsed nor criticized the Obama administration for declaring an end to the U.S. combat mission in Iraq."

"She asked, 'How do we make sure the people of Afghanistan don't feel that they were abandoned, but at the same time have the proper military and the proper strategy in place?' She offered no answer to her own question. No one seemed to mind."
