WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross published a new blog on jrsbarbq.com today discussing a number of topics including on-air General Managers and what he would change about the NXT show.

Ross shot down the idea of playing a GM, which wouldn't even be a current option in WWE after his talent contract expired on Friday.

"No, I'm not interested in having a TV authority figure role on a wrestling show. None has been offered, by the way, but it isn't something that interests me at this stage of the game," Ross said. "I'm one that believes that the authority figure role on a wrestling TV show is waning and needs to be refreshed and invigorated. I'm not the guy to do that."

On the topic of WWE's NXT show, Ross said he believes the show will return for a second season, but he would like to see a different theme for the show.

"Yes, I think that NXT will return for another season but I'm not sure on what network but it will likely be one owned by NBC Universal," Ross said. "I would like to see NXT more like 'The Ultimate Fighter' where the Rookies have to do more to earn the right to wrestle on TV. That's just one fan's opinion."

Caldwell's Analysis: WWE doesn't seem interested in presenting a gritty, reality-type show similar to The Ultimate Fighter, although I believe that would be in the best interest of the show. WWE also has a mentality that "we know what kind of programming people will watch," so I doubt there will be any major change to the format of next season. WWE tried a different type of show with ECW, then slowly made it look and feel just like a "WWE show" with the lighting, production, graphics, style of presenting the in-ring product, announcers sounding the same, etc. WWE just isn't challenged to make a major change even if it's apparent to most people who have watched NXT that the show needs tweaks. WWE operates under the mentality that they can slap on the WWE label and people will watch.
