Former TNA writer Dutch Mantell has a new blog entry this week talking about the build-up to WrestleMania 11 when he was playing the role of Uncle Zed managing the Blu Brothers (Ron & Don Harris).

Mantell goes behind-the-scenes with a story on WWE's WrestleMania 11 marketing appearance at Times Square in New York City. WWE (then WWF) was trying to reach the NYC market with Bam Bam Bigelow vs. NFL star Lawrence Taylor in the PPV main event.

Mantell also wrote about WWE's contracts at the time before wrestlers had downside guarantees and were paid based on appearances and percentage of revenue created for WWE.

Once, I had an attorney look at my contract as I was telling him that this was a standard WWF talent document. He asked me why would anyone 'sign' such a document? I had no answer really other than to say that WWF controlled the only game in town and you either played ball on their team or guess what? You didn't play at all. Simple. That's why it is imperative that pro wrestling have competition because if one company dominates the field, its not good for talent or for fans. Hear that TNA?

Caldwell's Analysis: Mantell's latest blog is just like a chapter out of his book, "The World According to Dutch." I finished reading the book this afternoon after spending most of the morning reading the book and listening to Hulk Hogan's interview on Monday Night Mayhem. It was like being hit upside the head with road stories from Dutch and being talked into giving up my life savings from Hogan at the same time. I'll have a review of Dutch's fascinating and insightful book this week or later this weekend.
