WWE News: Jim Ross blogs on DX and need for "new TV content," WWE's video game company reports earnings, WWE to report earnings tomorrow Nov 4, 2009 - 5:30:46 PM
-- WWE announcer Jim Ross posted two new blogs on his website scouting WWE TV from home while he waits out his recovery from a Bell's Palsy attack two weeks ago. Ross wrote about the need for "new content" on WWE TV and young wrestlers needing to understand how to present their characters.
Ross said about DX's commentary during Raw: "DX's commentary on the main event was entertaining. For a former Raw announcer, their remarks were amusing. At least it was a change of pace and was a new element added to the presentation. Key term is 'new,' of which the business needs an abundance." Read Tuesday's blog.
Regarding the ECW brand, Ross said William Regal would be the right person to revitalize the male manager role whenever his wrestling career is over. "When someone realizes that really good wrestling managers can help any company's presentation and that many of today's fans would look at managers as 'new,' we'll see it happen. ... Plus, some young stars don't have a clue as to how to verbalize and rely on memorization and how they 'perceive' a wrestler would react and respond to particular situations." Read Wednesday's blog.
-- THQ, WWE's video game producer, announced positive earnings results today for their most recent period. THQ did not provide specific numbers on WWE Smackdown vs. Raw's video game sales, but the company CEO talked favorably about the results they've seen thus far.
"THQ is now operating as a more focused, more efficient company,” said Brian Farrell, THQ’s president and CEO. “We continue to deliver highly rated hit titles such as UFC 2009 Undisputed and WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010. We believe we are well positioned this holiday with our strong mass-market line-up led by the highly rated WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010." Read the full report.
