WWE News: WWE receiving government money for Raw and SD in Connecticut; is the money helping fund Linda McMahon's campaign? Oct 29, 2009 - 11:02:35 AM
The Journal-Inquirer newspaper in Connecticut published a report on WWE receiving millions of dollars in tax credits from the state of Connecticut for their production of Raw, Smackdown, and Internet videos. The tax credit is part of a government program called "digital media & motion picture tax credit" to encourage production companies to invest in the local economy.
WWE, which is based in Stamford, Conn., has received nearly $3.0 million in tax credits, according to the report. WWE's most-recent payment was reportedly received eight weeks before then-WWE CEO Linda McMahon announced her candidacy for U.S. Senate in 2010.
It appears the report is trying to link government payouts to Linda McMahon's Senate campaign run. The suggestion is that the government is indirectly helping fund McMahon's campaign, which her opponents obviously would not be in favor of.
WWE does not disclose on their financial statements whether the government tax credits are pumped back into the company or disbursed to company shareholders and executives, such as Vince, Linda, Shane, and Stephanie McMahon. The report does not have evidence that Linda is using the tax credit to fund her campaign.
