WWE Smackdown TV taping report
October 27, 2009
Rochester, N.Y.
Report by Greg Parks, Torch specialist

-- Greg Parks has a match-by-match run-down of the Smackdown TV taping results here. The following are more detailed notes from Parks on the taping for Friday night's show.

When we got to the arena, apparently the tickets we had were in a spot that WWE had roped off, so we had to go back to the ticket offices and we got new ones, one section over. We were just to the right of the entranceway, about seven rows up. We could see the guys straight-on as they came out of the curtain.

The pyro guys were pretty much right down in front of us and they had a Sony TV tuned to the action with a guy stationed there. What's funny is that two things got screwed up tonight. During his pre-match promo, Dolph Ziggler talked about Morrison being the only Smackdown wrestler to lose his match at "Bragging Point." After his match, the TV screen at the production area came up with a black screen. In white writing it said, "Ziggler Wildline." Then you could see what appeared to be the guys in the truck editing the camera angles, and using the camera that was positioned directly behind Ziggler when he said the line. I'm sure he was also doing a voice-over of it backstage to insert in there too.

The same thing happened during the women's match. When Tony Chimel introduced the jobber, he said, "weighing in at..." then seemed to realize his mistake and made a gesture like he was guessing and said 110 pounds (since they don't announce weight for women). I felt bad for the girl. Anyway, after that match, the screen came up and said "Chimel Wildline" and must have been editing that out as well. Speaking of Chimel, as he was leaving, someone from my section threw a water bottle at him.

While Byron Saxton filled in for Matt Striker on ECW, Matt Striker was moved to Smackdown with Todd Grisham to replace Jim Ross.

Tonight's crowd seemed okay and from what I saw, the place was pretty full except for some empty areas in the lower bowl. For Superstars, no one seemed to have any interest in Ryder vs. Reks, as if that's any surprise.

For the Smackdown taping, Teddy Long came out first, then Chris Jericho interrupted and said he deserved to be in the title match, but Kane came out and took exception. He choked Jericho until Long told him about the main event of Kane vs. Jericho to find out who would be the third man in the Survivor Series World Title match.

More on Rey's promo: he basically was willing to let bygones be bygones, but Batista wasn't having it. I thought they were going to come to blows, but they wisely held off on it.

Mickie James, dressed as Elektra, won the costume contest over Natalya (matador), Layla (Michael Jackson), and Michelle McCool (the devil). Layla nearly won it thanks to her dancing as Jackson.

Punk wanted a title match earlier from Long, but Vince McMahon walked in and instead granted him a match with Scott Armstrong. No Armstrong Brothers theme from WCW for Scott, though, which disappointed me.

The Taker vs. Punk dark match featured a lot of stalling at first, but they did a lot more than I expected, especially with Taker banged up.
