WWE News: Jim Ross asks for patience with new ECW brand, talks about challenges after 15-person trade Jul 1, 2009 - 1:18:18 PM
WWE Smackdown announcer Jim Ross says patience will be needed with the new look to the ECW brand after top stars were moved to Raw and developmental wrestlers debuted last night. Ross says the WWE crew faced many challenges at last night's TV tapings for Smackdown and ECW.
"We're all out here working hard with many new elements which keeps everyone on their toes and to be honest some of it will be great and some will be fodder for the critics," Ross said on jrsbarbq.com. "Got a feeling this show (ECW) will be feast or famine w/no lack of effort."
Ross said WWE will try to find the right mix of veterans and rookies on the ECW brand. Specifically, Ross said Sheamus is "a keeper" and Abraham Washington's talk show "will be challenging at first but the young man can talk."
"Patience for these young kids will be needed by all involved but they'll succeed with hard work and the leadership of the vets," Ross said. "ECW will be unpredictable without question."
Caldwell's Analysis: I think viewers will need to have the most patience with the WWE TV writers, not necessarily the new talent. The first 20 minutes of TV last night was atrocious, in my view, with some of the most worn-out, played-out, stale-two-decades-ago, Jay Leno-quality joke material written for Shelton Benjamin and Abraham Washington. The performers did the best they could with the material, but no one could have made that crap work.
