WWE News: Taz's insight into announcer move from ECW to SD, who made the decision, why ECW brand is the "red-headed step child" Jul 1, 2009 - 12:18:40 PM
Former WWE announcer Taz says he was tired of being on the ECW brand calling one PPV match and being "stuck in quicksand" with Mike Adamle in 2008. He says he told WWE chairman Vince McMahon and WWE TV executive Kevin Dunn that he wanted to be back in an important role.
When WWE made an announcer switch last summer when Mick Foley left WWE for TNA, Taz says Kevin Dunn switched him over to Smackdown because Dunn and McMahon knew Taz was upset on the ECW brand with Adamle.
"I wanted off the show," Taz said on his Facebook page. "I wasn't challenged anymore on that show."
Taz says the ECW brand developed into the "red-headed stepchild" - largely ignored by WWE - because there was an internal dispute on how to present the show when it was re-created three years ago.
"The plan for the re-birth of ECW and for the ECW brand was for it to be on par with Raw and SD, but it just didn't have a chance because half the people in creative wanted the brand to represent what the brand use to be and the other half of the Powers That Be wanted it to be Raw or SD 'light,'" Taz said.
FYI: Taz also talks about the Tough Enough series where he played "bad cop" to Al Snow's "good cop" on the MTV reality show ten years ago. Taz says he often had legit disputes with Snow off-camera for going easy on the trainees.
