WWE News: Shelton Benjamin wants to be known as all-time great wrestler, cuts a promo about wrestlers being like mailmen

WWE star Shelton Benjamin says he wants to be known as one of the all-time great in-ring wrestlers once his career is over. He says that might be a lofty goal, but he feels confident he'll eventually achieve that.

"In the ring, obviously, I want to be known as one of the best of all time. If they ever do a top 50 pro wrestlers of all-time, I'd like to be in at least the top 10," Benjamin told Cincinnati.com to promote tonight's SD/ECW TV taping. "That's a pretty bold statement, and there's an endless list of people to knock off that I give much respect to, mostly guys I'm a fan of myself."

Benjamin acknowledges he isn't a main event wrestler yet, but he places emphasis on giving WWE fans a more value than they paid for at live events. "I want to be one of those guys that always gave the people more than they expected, wherever I fall in the pecking order," Benjamin said.

Benjamin says he takes pride in being part of a pro wrestling organization that doesn't have an off-season, doesn't take breaks, and doesn't have downtime. Benjamin says WWE wrestlers are like mailmen who deliver the mail no matter the circumstances.

"We are the only people that I'm aware of that go on no matter what. There are tons of times - people don't even recognize it - that we get hurt in the ring, but we're such professionals and most of us have such pride in what we do that even when we're hurt, we still go on," Benjamin said.

He continued: "I'm not saying or suggesting anyone do that, but that's what it means to be a pro wrestler. It's like the mail: Rain, sleet or snow, the show must go on."

Caldwell's Analysis: If Benjamin isn't in Smackdown PPV main events in two years, I think we're going to look back and say, "gosh, what a wasted opportunity by WWE with that much talent at their disposal." People still talk about that HBK-Benjamin Raw TV match from like four years ago, yet Benjamin still seems to be in the same place he was then as he is now. Interesting to look at Shelton as a WWE locker room veteran now, but he's been on the main WWE roster since 2002 and it's time for WWE to look at him as a consistent main eventer.
