WWE News: Summary of 1/25 WWE Royal Rumble - Shawn Michaels tells a story, Hardy surprise ending, HIGH/LOW Points Jan 25, 2009 - 10:09:43 PM
-- High Point: Shawn Michaels becoming the ultimate babyface of all-time by smashing JBL with a superkick, then smashing John Cena with a superkick before leaving the ring. Cena eventually scored the pin on JBL to retain the World Title, which cost Shawn Michaels his entire "JBL working agreement" payday, a Rumble spot, and a break in the JBL-HBK working agreement.
-- Low Point: The slow period in the Rumble match where not a whole lot was happening and too many men were in the ring at the same time. There were bright spots throughout the Rumble, but only half-to-two-thirds of the match was constantly moving.
-- Randy Orton earned a "guaranteed" WWE or World Title match at WrestleMania 25 by winning the Royal Rumble match, earning the victory with the final elimination of Triple H. Final four were Orton, Hunter, and Legacy members Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes, who were eliminated by Hunter before Orton snuck in behind Hunter and eliminated him.
-- Edge re-captured the WWE Title for the fourth time, defeating Jeff Hardy in the semi-main event when Matt Hardy interfered in the No DQ match and turned on Jeff with a chairshot blow to the head.
-- Melina re-captured the Women's Title for the third time, defeating Beth Phoenix in six minutes.
-- RVD made a surprise return in the Royal Rumble match, entering at number 25 and lasting several minutes before being eliminated by Chris Jericho.
