WWE News: Matt Hardy responds to Eric Bischoff's personal criticisms in his recent blog Jan 21, 2009 - 10:54:46 AM
To recap the history involved here, WWE star Matt Hardy published a blog on his myspace page January 5 discussing his New Year's partying and trying to catch up on sleep prior to WWE's house shows the weekend after New Year's Day.
"One thing I can say though, regardless of what anyone says, the business has evolved," Hardy said. "The guys and gals are so much more intelligent and responsible in this day and age then they were in the '80s/early '90s." PWTorch.com original report.
Former WCW president Eric Bischoff responded to Hardy's comments on his blog a week later with several professional and personal criticism of Matt, as well as Jeff Hardy.
The key line from Bischoff: "Your suggestion that you and your generation are 'smarter and more responsible' than previous generations of wrestlers makes me sick." PWTorch.com original report.
Hardy subsequently posted his response today on myspace, answering each of Bischoff's extended criticisms.
"I'm not a drug guy ... I've never been in trouble, I've never had to battle demons, and the Wellness Program loves me," Hardy said. "For the record, when I was out all night at Shane Helm's place, it was a New Year's Eve party. The majority of America stays up late that night. I was off the next day, and was able to get enough sleep to catch up."
Hardy stood by his statement that today's generation of wrestlers have a better understanding of living a healthier lifestyle than past generations. Yet, this time, he referenced back to 1998, not the early '80s as he suggested in his first blog.
"Things have changed SO much for the better since I started with the WWE full-time in 1998," he said. "Even before the Wellness Program began, the majority of my generation didn't want to end up dying early or broke if they were fortunate enough to make a good living in the business. And we learned that from those who had come before us. The majority of us were smart enough to learn from the mistakes of those who paved the way for us. The business isn't perfect, but it's damn sure better and more responsible than it's ever been. I stand completely behind that statement."
Hardy thanks the previous generation of wrestlers for paving the way for him, but says he's put in his time and work to be in a secure position without needing to depend on a hand-out from anyone, which means he doesn't feel the need to give a hand-out to anyone else from the past generation of wrestling stars.
"I am especially grateful to the previous generations who kept the business alive so I could leave the life I do today," Hardy said. I've busted my ass for a long time with a master plan of positioning myself into a certain situation. A situation that I'm responsible for where I'm happy, secure, and free to dictate my daily activities. On my own, I've more or less gotten to that point. I've never asked for any donations, so I don't feel responsible to give out any."
