WWE News: What was different about the corporate layoffs Friday compared to past massive layoffs at headquarters Jan 13, 2009 - 1:19:17 AM
Regarding Friday's cutbacks at WWE headquarters, one noteworthy difference that stood out, according to a PWTorch source who works in WWE's front office, is that security guards were present on every floor on Friday when layoffs were announced.
"It had a different aura to it," says the source. "The last time a bunch of us were laid off, there weren't security officers escorting everyone laid off out of the building."
It's common practice in a corporate environment to have security officers oversee and escort laid off workers on their way out of the building to prevent theft of objects or company trade information. WWE had not, though, done that in the past.
"Everyone was bracing for something once the $20 million cutback announcement was made by Linda McMahon," says the source. "We had an inkling it would be soon, nobody knew for sure."
What was the buzz in at least a few departments after the cutback? Probably the same as in a lot office environments in this economy - which is relief they weren't one of the cutbacks and a willingness to work harder if necessary to pick up the slack. "There's agreement that a lot of redundancies were eliminated. A lot of good people left, but those of us left can pick up the slack."
