WWE Notes: Boston sports journalist writes that WWE created damage with Jeff Hardy story Nov 23, 2008 - 5:25:22 PM
A notable Boston sports journalist who wishes to have his name withheld sent the following letter to PWTorch.com regarding WWE's storyline-driven "report" on Jeff Hardy's health this morning prior to tonight's Survivor Series PPV in Boston.
I know, I should have known better.
But when you have friends at the Four Seasons, friends at the Garden, and friends who are fans reading the web, word travels fast.
I embarrassed myself, checking with police sources, sources at Mass General (realistically the only "hospital" a big name would be taken to), and sources at the Garden itself before learning this was a damn hoax.
I've already done a couple of stories on John Cena... I was hoping to do one with his father once the Patriots are over, and possibly something on the wrestling legacy Killer Kowalski left behind in New England, but this has me questioning whether the WWE really wants me or my station to take them seriously.
I'm pissed about this one, as a fan and as a professional.
I totally agree, both as a former journalist and as a wrestling fan,
working professional, and willful suspender of disbelief. First of all, I'm
all for getting worked by WWE and pro wrestling in general; I was live at
No Mercy '07 and I legit thought Finlay had broken his neck. Nope, it was a
dastardly heel trick. I laughed about it.
This plays off not only Jeff Hardy's personal life, but taps into the shock
and tragedy of the last few years of sudden deaths related to Pro
Wrestling. To even mention a story like this in the same breath as a work
is to evoke scary memories of some of our favorite performers meeting
tragic ends.
WWE tries so hard to be hip and cutting edge by bending the rules about
where real life ends and storyline begins, but there are more tactful (and
interesting, fun, enjoyable, et. al.) ways of doing this. The specter of
drugs, alcohol, and death does not need to loom over wrestling. I worry
that because these issues are omnipresent in Vince McMahon's life, he
believes all wrestling fans must have them rubbed in their faces.
It's sick that WWE does this to people, especially after the deaths of
Benoit and Eddie, and with a guy who has drug issues. And what will WWE get
from this? People buying a PPV to see if Hardy will show up on it?
It seems that the WWE is so shallow and heartless that they do this. I'm
watching Survivor Series online on a stream because WWE doesn't deserve my
40 dollars anymore.

Very, very sad and this just cements exactly why I haven't watched a single
WWE product since just before SummerSlam "06". I can't be nice about this
stuff anymore. McMahon is a genuine idiot and he is completely disconnected
from not only reality, but any sense of human decency. I'm very happy to be
a wrestling fan but I would never support a WWE product as long as he is
running it because it's obvious he is never going to get his act together
and stop abusing the wrestlers and insulting the fans.

Once again, another disgusting storyline from a classless organization.
No, any pub, good or bad, is not good pub. Glad I put my wwe coin away two
years ago because they don't deserve the money out of my pocket.
I'm not saying TNA is the best there is but it is a viable alternative to
the ghouls who are called the wwe creative team.
Why are you posting about WWE related? Quotes like:
"I haven't watched a single WWE product since just before SummerSlam 06
(2006?!?)"
"Glad i put my wwe coin away two years ago because they don't dserve the
money out of my pocket (two years ago, Terrance = Yohimbe?!?)"
One is watching the pay per view on a stream (illegally, yet he's not fine
when WWE does something god awful. But what about me, what about your own
ethics).
Seriously, if you don't watch WWE programming, why are you even in here.
It's like saying, "I haven't brush my teeth all day and my breath stinks."

My source who doesn't want to be identified tells me that Terrance and
Yohimbe need to get over it. If they can fabricate Bush's national guard
papers, they can do just about everything.

This unnamed Boston sports journalist is bullshit. Name yourself, or shut
up

what I'm taking from this is that Jeff has turned a major corner in his
life. this anlge could be a very bad idea given his past. but i would
think WWE has to be very confident all those issues are behind him. if
they weren't i don't think this idea would ever be heard of. this all
leads to edge vs. hardy with hardy winning the title, with a little help
from the instant classic.
